Carb Sync. Tool

Postby Danzig » Sun May 02, 2010 3:43 pm

Anyone got a carb sync tool that threads into the carb body?

Meaning on the powerjet carbs or possibly any Mikuni, on the bellmouth side or air box side of the carb there is one little pan head screw that is supposed to be removed to affix a sync tool too. The tool should have the metering balls.

Would like some pics to one or a link to one that you currently own and use please. The type that you simply hold to the bellmouth while the engine is running is poor and is not accurate in my opinion.

Paul,

I have one of those throat type shown in the Deere service manual and I agree they really suck. It was really a waste of $40.

I’ve been looking at the Motion Pro manometers, but have been also thinking about trying to make one out of el-cheapo clear line and ATF fluid. There are several videos on youtube where people have made their own manometers for syncing motorcycle carbs some look successful. The adaptors that thread into the carbs are on ebay for about $15. They look easy enough to make if you’re handy with a lathe.

Just for the record I haven’t tried using a home built manometer yet, but I plan on giving it a shot before I spend $100+ for the motion pro. At the pace my rebuild is going you’ll be finished before I get a chance to try it though.

All I have left to do on mine is tighten up the skis and do some cross country mods to them as well as the suspension. Otherwise I am pretty much a turn key operation. Just some fine tuning and the weather is a bit warm for anything serious. I am not getting fancy with all the painting and that stuff, been there done that.. :beers;

well...I am going to try this, however finding the fitting to fit into the carb may be a problem. I wonder how I could do a 3 cylinder machine?

Paul...

The fitting should be easy to find. Any sled with a primer would have the fitting.

I would personally do three separate loops filled to the same level so it would work with your kitty. Also I’d use ATF I’d hate to suck a gulp of water into an engine if things went haywire. The link below is for M5 adaptors but I don’t think they’d be hard to make.

Nick,

I looked in my 80 Liquiire parts manual and the screw size is an M4 x 6. I dont have access to a lathe, however a bridgeport... :bonk: I believe these fittings are called reversed nipples...someone correct me if I am wrong.
