295/s & 340/s paint

Post by Sprailfire340 »

I'm hesitant to open this can of worms, but I'm sending one of each to painters very shortly.

1) is the 295/s and 340/s the same color?
2) have we uncovered the actual paint code from Deere?
--------If Yes - what is it?
--------If No - who do we believe has the MOST ACCURATE / REPRESENTATIVE to original color/code

I've read just about every post I could find here regarding paint codes, scans from NOS hoods, under foot pads, etc going back many years. Opinions can and do change over the years as you have seen more and more of these sleds restored. So...what is the consensus today? Thanks guys.

This is what Mean green Looks like from Dennis at Vintage paint. I am not sure how close it really is to the original, but I know I like it.
Old sleds are hours of entertainment.... then you get to ride them for a little bit.

A local shop in Minot, ND reproduced Mean Green for me on my sled. I thought it turned out very nice, and we saved a nice section of new paint that never saw sunlight since it came off the line, so we had a good reference to match it. Took several tries to get it right, but I think it was worth it. I keep the paint code tucked away in case I need it again. Willing to share if someone wants to use it.

When I restored my first sled, a 77 Cyclone, I bought an NOS hood. Per my painter I took the hood to Sherwin-Williams in Fort Wayne, IN and they computer analyzed it to come up with a match. In my humble opinion it's the closest match except perhaps for Ddubs. The paint code is listed in a thread here on the forum. After painting the Cyclone we also used it for my 340/S. I'll attach a picture.

the code for the 295/S or the340/S is I think the same as a 72, or 73 Corvette, it's called Elkhart Green & the code is 946 & 947,

GM Code = WA4284, 4284, L4284 or U4284
Ditzler PPG = 2438
Dupont = 5462L, 5462A, 5462D
Sherwin Williams = 4507

This is what I found & I hope this helps
