Altering/lightening Hood

Post by Hmkru »

I just bought a 340 Cyclone to turn into an ice oval sled. I plan on buying a lightweight after market
Hood for next season. but for the time being I was wondering if anyone has had an experience in
Making the original hood lighter? The thing has to be close to 40 lbs! The hood is already cracked and the original decals are peeled off so I'm not real worried about preserving it. Any advice much appreciated!

I know the 76 hoods were really heavy. The 77-78 ones were about half the weight if you find one of those cheap. Making the fan duct from sheet aluminum would probably save a pound or two as well.
