Cyclone Paint Code

Post by flames4555 »

Hey guys ,
This paint code was given to me on the old site for my 76 cyclone . I am currently having trouble comming up with it . I 've been to a couple of body shops as well as a paint supply place where they mixed up a sample based on the number , but it came out gold /bronze. I 'm wondering where some of you guys get you paint . My sled looks great in primer , but now I'm just more curious how it will look the the Ivy Bronze . Thanks in advance , this site is an awesome resource !

Well i'm pretty sure I've got he correct color . thanks to earlier posts I was able to find the ivy bronze metalic in an old paint chip book (1972 ford) at my buddy's body shop. The color is indeed ivy bronze metalic (4C ). The 4d was close but slightly darker . The 4C cross referenced to Centari 5334a , which I now have on order. I'll let you know the results after I get the paint and do a couple of test panels .

Well it's all painted and pretty close to the original color . A friend of mine at the local body shop suggested a put a basemaker over the centari enamel and then use a urethene clear . The color is real close to the paint original paint which was on the back of the decals when I peeled them off .

Hi, In your post you said centari 5334a and in your story/ photos you said centari 4335a. Could you let me know which is correct? Also, how much paint did you need to buy to repaint the entire sled and how much did it cost? Thanks for your help, Don.

Sorry about the typo in the story I have a few things I 'm going to get corrected in the story asap ( Proof reading is not one of my strong suits) . 5334a is the correct paint code number and I used a little less than a quart . The self etching primer I used was green so it covered pretty easily.
I will have to look up the price on the paint and get back to you . I am lucky enough to have a friend who owns a body shop and he got me the paint at his discount .

Enamel

reducer 36.63
hardener 27.48
custom paint mix 32.10
1 gallon primer 68.85

Some of these items you will have extra. Can be transferred to next project. You will need the full quart of paint mix. These cost are retail and you may be able to do better pricing.

Base coat-clear coat

1 quart custom base coat $125.00
clear coat 145.00 ????????????
reducer
hardener
primer

I would not use the base coat -clear on riders but use the enamels as you can see by the pricing.

Good luck

The self etching primer i used was nothing special. It was made by duplicolor and
I bought 3 cans at the local autozone. The color was very similar to an olive drab. Its been painted for a little over a year , so far so good.
