As I was at the last fuel stop when Chuck came in I can tell you first hand that he was not DQ'd.

He was told he could continue if he wanted but his time would only count as far as the last fuel stop.
Chuck was in good shape and his sled was fine also.

What erks me is at the driver's meeting the night before a specific question was asked, if there would be a time limit for the vintage drivers.
The offical answer was yes, Dark.

Chuck was told that at 2:30 the call was made to stop any remaining drivers from continuing the final 53 miles.

There were 35 sleds entered in the Vintage Class. I took a picture of every one that left.
Total sleds the left the start line on time were 23.

There may have been a couple that left later but I had to get to the fuel stop so I was not there to photo any later ones.

Yes, attrition was high in the vintage class but that was true for the newer machines also.

135 started the first day only 100 finished.
I did not catch the numbers for the second day but they are probably on the USCC site.

Great photos! I see Bob Enns was there, and he had sent photos of a Liquifire he built for the race - was someone running it for him or did it just not make it?

Todd, thanks for the first hand info. That kind of sucks if you ask me. 2:30 in the afternoon and they're shutting him down? He and Don have this in common now I guess.

If they went through tech inspection they did.

Funny how tech insp started at 8 am. When Chucks sled went in there were only 5 other machines there.

just saying....

But as rough as the course was I can see some lamps being shaken to pieces along with other parts of man and machine.

I see several race pictures with no lights but some newer sleds came in without lights too.

I see there were a couple of polaris engineers in the race. Mike Fugleberg is a young engineer at polaris and actually interviewed me for a position once and I know that Derek Frie also is an engineer there as well. Wonder how much backing those guys recieved?
