295/S misc parts

Post by Kurts »

Hey guys, been slowly but surely fixing up my old 295/s. Not restoring it, just making it nicer. I've had it around 15yrs and it's never been all together. Anyway have a few questions.

1. On the engine cowling, what badge is supposed to be there like is on the other mid mount sleds? Is it the one with "john deere" stacked like 5 times?

2. Where does the 5th spring on the expansion chamber go? I got the 2 and the y pipe, and the 2 at the can.

3. What was used for hardware to fasten the cowling together? Philips? Straight? black? chrome?

4. Does the cowl fasten anywhere else besides the 2 by the mid tank, and the 4 1/4 carriage bolts on the steering support?

5. I seem to remember some "j" shaped slotted pieces of sheet metal in the cowling area? maybe on the windshield? What and where do they go?

6. I seem to remember this had a plain recoil with no "CCW" Logo on it, is that correct?

7. Did the 295's ever have a rear grab bar? I recently installed one from a '72 400 didn't have to drill any holes.

8. My glove box door is broken. Is it the same as any other models?

I think that's it for now. Thanks guys!
Kurt.

1. No badge on the 295/s to my knowledge.
2. 5th spring? No idea, I can only think of the 4.
3. The NOS screws are black flatheads.
4. No, that's it.
5. Yes, they wrapped around the back edge of the windshield and are held by the windshield mounting screw that's furthest back. Hard to describe.
6. Yes, you are right about the plain recoil.
7. No, they had the plastic handles. It's a shared chassis design though so a slide 295/s could chassis swap with a JDX, or a bogie 295/S could swap with a 00 series, so they have the same holes.
8. Yes same door.

I can answer question 1. They had the badge with the multiple lines of “John Deere”

Year later, but thanks guys. Don't think I'll ever "restore" it, but I enjoy fixing stuff on it and making it "better" Took it on a 10mi ride sunday 2up with my wife. Her first sled ride ever, and we had over 12" of power, what shitshow. lol.
