1973 JDX4- Recoil Cup

Post by Markus99 »

I just inherited a JDX4 that has been in a barn for 20 years and I am pretty deep into it. Chasing no spark (dirty points). A couple parts i need are a carb kit for a Walbro WD-6 and a recoil cup ( the part the pawls grab onto, they are stripped out). Any help would be appreciated.

Note I am just outside London, Ontario Canada.

Welcome to the site, had a JDX4 as a kid myself - you could try https://newbreedparts.com/ or https://www.mfgsupply.com/snowmobile/sn ... epair.html for the carb kits.

The Recoil Cup might be best to check local classifieds/or on here(or on the FB group) - if you do some digging in the parts manual you can probably find the JD Part number and check ebay for a NOS one.

I have completed a minor restore on my JDX4. Paintend tunel, restored plastics, rebuilt Carb and clutch. The estart works and I am relying on this. The kimpex recoil cup and the SPX starte pawl are not grabing so my recoil is inoperable.. Anyone have any ideas?

Looks good - you may have to hop on the classifieds here or the johndeere sleds facebook group for some good used parts.

Aside from finding a used one, I like to use WD40 Silicone spray to get the parts moving a little more freely on the recoil ... Maybe that will give it a better chance at grabbing. If the cup is super worn, could you file or grind it so the pawls grab material, rather than slides off when the pawls extend?
