1972 John Deere 400 carb help

Post by Lheath186 »

Hello, I have recently bought a 1972 John Deere 400 with the CCW 340 (KEC-340), currently it’s a walbro carb WR7-X5? Looks to be the number, just wondering if that would be the correct one for this engine just making sure before I rebuild it. I do have a WDA-32 from a 1974? John Deere 400 that I parted out years ago.

Looks like from the parts manual a 72 400 "should" have a WR-7. The WDA-32 would be I think from a 73 model, as the 74's (depends on serial number) had a Bendix Carb.

I have a 74 400 that originally had a Bendix and converted to the WDA-32 with no major issues. You may need a different airbox spacer but if yours is a 72 you probably have the correct Walbro spacer already.

I took a look at the carb that came on the CCW, it has the John Deere part number AM52007 stamped onto it, should be original then?

I think it would be a safe bet that it's the correct one

Awesome thank you, was double guessing I don’t want to waste time and effort on trying a wrong carb
