PJ,

I'm at the very bottom of Indiana. I haven't graduated up to the fire series yet so I can't help with parts. However if you can co-ordinate some work days, I would be willing to make the trip north for a weekend or two to help do some wrenching or what ever needs done to help with the project.

PJ,
I will donate time in the shop. Cameron might also if his schedule allows. We could probably put Troy, or anybody else for that matter, up at the Turtle Town Inn if needed.

I am too far away to assist in the build but when you figure out what it needs i may be able to come up with some hard to find parts. I have an 80 sporty thats too far gone to fix but mostly complete. One cylinder is bad, the crank is rusted tight, the track is shot, bumpers smashed, etc. I usually dont like parting with anything but if its for a good cause and its nothing I will need I would consider parting with it. Hope I can help.

Too far away as well, but I do have some fire series parts so I will answer the call if there is something I see that you guys need! Maybe if this becomes something we decide to do each year we can change the location of the build, then everyone would have a chance to help in person and drink a beer.

A thought, build it, have Brian Nelson ride it on the Vintage Challange, get milage sponsors for the trip, then raffle or auction the sled and split the money HOF and breast cancer donations. The JD sled ladies could held getting milage sponsors and make it a real win/win for all! JRC

Jon, can we paint it pink and instead of ski skins put on some Thorlo's?? Seriously, I'm game for anything but Cancer and/or HOF are high on my list. DA

Anything you think would work for the charity give-a-way is good for me, if it's good for the other guy's too. If it will work for you, once the sled is completed, we'll turn it over to you so you can organize how the sled will be donated. Okey-Dokey?

Also, if you would Matt, please let everyone know about the Paypal acct. you have set up through the website to collect donations and if you could head-up the donation collection stuff, (Paypal, check, cash or whatever) that would help out a lot, so I wouldn't have to worry about that stuff as we move along.

Let me/us know and thanks for helping.

PJ, Yes I'll arrange everything on past it's completion. I'm going to hold off on the donation info until we have a complete plan in place.

JRC, I like the Brian Nelson idea, or any other ETD member for that matter that may need a ride.

While I am in South Dakota a weekend wrenching would be a hoot but logisticaly out of the realm of reallity.
I have way too many XX' and OO's and not near enough fire's but may have a few parts and if I can't supply a piece or two I will donate some cash.
So count me in PJ. And thank you for taking the reigns on this project.

Here are a few pictures of the charity sled I was talking about.

It's a 1980 JD Sportfire 440 w/ approx. 3400 miles and in pretty good overall condition, with nothing broken, bent or damaged in any way. I bought it complete a while ago, but sold the good engine, exhaust y-pipe and hood to other JD owners that needed these parts more than I did, so we'll have to replace them.

Here is what the sled has now and all parts are in good condition~
- Full front and rear suspension & related hardware
- Track
- Tunnel
- Seat & related hardware
- Fuel tank
- Steering system and related hardware
- Belly pan and related TPR's
- Final drive system w/ secondary clutch, chain case, gears, drive cogs & related hardware
- Dash, gauges & related hardware
- Braking system
- Hand controls w/ good throttle & brake handles, light switches, kil switches, etc.
- Exhaust pipe
- Air box
- Complete wiring
- Clutch

At first glance, here's what it needs~
- Engine w/ ignition coils, CDI, etc.
- Engine base plate
- VM/34 PJ Carb
- Exhaust Y-pipe
- Decals
- Hood & related headlight hardware, bulb, etc.
- Windshield
- Right front ski and spring
- Secondary drive jackshaft bearings
- Fuel system service parts (new fuel hose, shut-off valve, fuel pump, in-tank check valve, etc.)
- Rear flap and flap bar
- Paint
- And good 'ol TLC to make her a nice rider again!

Dang, I kinda wish I had never taken her apart to begin with now... She's a good sled!

I will supply the decals. Should I send a full set or wait to see what the hood looks like?

Here's the address for the shop on where to send parts, etc.~

Charity JD Sled
c/o Phil "PJ" Rickard
4411 Engle Ridge Drive
Fort Wayne, IN. 46804
USA

I'll keep updating the "parts to get" and the "parts already got" lists for everyone to keep track of and a list of folks who have participated.

Thanks for the overwhelming positive response and she's going to make a nice sled for some lucky chap when we get her done!
