In about September of '99 two guys in entirely
different places started searching the internet for more information
about their John Deere Snowmobiles. They both found nothing, but asked
around on the classifieds sites to find anyone who knew anything.
Some people replied with what they knew
about the history, and the models, and general knowledge about the
line.
Each of the guys decided that he would help share this
information with the next person who came on the 'net looking for JD
snowmobile stuff, so they each started a web site.
So it started out as
two entirely different sites by entirely different people. Maybe
about a month into the site building, Joe noticed someone else was
putting together a site of the same nature. He e-mailed Matt, and
they compared content. They talked regularly via instant
messages, but both felt like it was a competition to make the better
site.
Both of the web sites
had good information. Joe and Matt tried not to copy each other
as they went along, so the sites were quite different even though they
were of the same topic. In around Jan. of 2000, in an instant
message conversation, Joe suggested that we quit with the competition
and put our sites together to make one complete source for JD sled
information. We did so in February, unveiling Joe & Matt's
John Deere Snowmobiles. We've been going like this ever since,
updating and upgrading the site, while only actually meeting each other
in person a couple times.
