Re: Learn something new every day - compression testing.
I know of this place. When I started my rebuild of my 80 liqufire, I was having problems with the heads sealing and I wanted to get it tuned. Since Larry was a JD guy, who better to work on it? Long story short, I live in Cochrane, a good 3hr drive there, my sled was in and out of his shop over a 2+...

Liquifire engines
I have two Liquifire engines that I will be getting rid of. One is fully rebuilt(but has not been started), crank was rebuilt by Mott's machining in Edmonton, new PTO bearing, new crank seals, new pistons/rings. With the engine I will also be selling the pipe and y-pipe(both ceramic coated), carbs, ...

Re: Crossover pipe leaking on Liquifire 440
The base gaskets are dry. I tried something last night. I removed the pipe, and just put gaskets on where it bolts to the cylinders(no gasket on lower crank half) and measured the clearance and got .052. The thickest gasket I have is around .041 thick. It is almost like the cylinders are to far forw...

Crossover pipe leaking on Liquifire 440
Never had this problem until now. Rebuilt the motor after blowing piston(have story and pics in previous post), and now have motor in sled(minus carbs and exhaust) and pressure testing to see what leaks, and the darn crossover pipe will not seal up. Have tried dry gaskets, gaskets with sealer, coppe...

Re: 81 LF crank question
Just checked Ronnies mail order microfiche. Found the 377 motor had orings on the bearings. Part # is 293300022. Might want to check a Doo dealer and see if those will work.

Re: 81 LF crank question
I have had my crank for my 80 Liquifire 440 rebuilt twice now. The orings can be replaced, the tough part is you have to stretch them over the connecting rods. If I remember correctly, they are similar to what Ski-doo used on there 440 engines. I don't know the part number, I am looking at the invoi...

Re: Cylinders
I don't drive for miles on end at a certain speed, even on my Polaris. If I am cruising I always give it bursts to speed things up. The day the motor blew there was cruising and wide open. All the parts(jets, needles, etc...) were all new and the carb jetted by the most up to date specs I could find...

Re: Cylinders
I think I know what happened. I took a closer look at the piston and noticed that the pin that locates the lower ring is broke off. If you look at the pic of the piston, you will see a notch between the ring lands, this is probably where the pin was forced up, breaking the upper ring and piston. The...

Re: Cylinders
Hopefully for me, its 3 times lucky. The last build was great, started on about 5 pulls when it was cold, full choke. Started on one when the engine was warm. No hesitation when you punch it from dead stop, just ran great. This is the last time I rebuild it, if it fails it goes away, far away, don't...

Re: Cylinders
Possible lean mixture, did a plug check and if anything I am running rich, plugs were more black/dark brown. Stock heads, stock timing(at least stator lined up with mark in block). Centre Point had the timing mark about 4-5mm above the mark in the block the first time. The engine was blown and apart...

Re: Cylinders
This is the third time I will be rebuilding this engine. The first time was ok, head leaking, took it to Centre Point Performance in Leduc because the guy there was a JD guru, long story short, I got screwed by them. Second time great, lasted 2 years. No problems until this. Starting to get gun shy ...

Re: Cylinders
I measured the bore with a tri-post bore mike, accurate to .0002. I build turbos at my job, so I know how to use them. Because the bore mike measures at 3 points, I turned it to measure at 6 points in the bore, at the top(below the ridge), middle and at the ports. The cylinder has no score marks on ...

Cylinders
1980 Liquifire 440. Late last year took out a piston on the Mag side, didn't damage the cylinder though. Engine had about 100+ miles on it. Did some measuring on the cylinders and the Mag cylinder on the side to side(45 deg. from intake/exhaust ports) is right at the wear tolerance, actually about ....
