Belt Deflection/ How much is too much?
Hey thanks Rich, You hit the nail right on the head! I guess that would explain why my clutch engagement went up from 4000(last year)-4450 RPM(this year). The belt is riding about 1/8 below flush.

Belt Deflection/ How much is too much?
Does anyone know how much belt deflection I should have on my 80' sportfire with a Max-1078 belt? This belt was on the sled when I got it, it might need to be replaced. It just feels like it has alot of play (up and down movement) between the two clutches. Thanks

Clutch Engagement
As far as I know, both primary and secondary are stock  . Primary has a silver spring and secondary has a blueish/green spring. How hard is it to take apart and clean? Do you grease it? How can I tell if the secondary clutch is in the NO.2 position? My neighbor tightened it one full turn for...

Clutch Engagement
Hello Friend's, Can some one tell me at what RPM should the clutch on my 1980 sportfire engage? Last winter it came in at 4000 RPM this winter it's about 4400RPM by the tach. I bought the tach new off ebay, is it going bad or is it something else? The belt I am using is a MAX 1078. Thanks

Dayco drive belts
Hello Bob, You are correct. You don't have to open the drive clutch to remove the drive belt. It is a little tight, but you can pull it off.

Dayco drive belts
Thanks Ken, That is the one I have on the sled now (Max1078), but my neighbor who is into old snowmobiles said it looks was too big? He put a new Max1078 we had as a spare, and it went right over both the first and secondary clutch without backing off the secondary clutch. Is that normal? Thanks, Ti...

Dayco drive belts
What is the correct drive belt for a 1980 sportfire? Dennis Kirk said the Dayco Max1080, MFG Supply said the HP3012 replaces the OEM Max 1078.
