Re: Fuel consumption??
Brian, you mentioned that carb to me in another thread and I have been looking for one, but have not been lucky enough to find one yet. I am hoping to eventually find one so I can get rid of that rich midrange that I can't tune out. Harley Sportster, 86 is a cool year since it is the first evo. That...

30" of new snow!
I have to share this with someone. From Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon, we got hammered with 30" of fresh snow at our camp where I keep the Deere's. It took me 2hours to dig out the driveway with the snow blower yesterday. I am sure the groomers have been out by now. Have a long ride...

Re: Fuel consumption??
Thanks for the input guys. Good to see I am not the only one who goes thru TONS of gas. Harley Sportster, I understand that the higher speed will give me better MPG, BUT a ton of the trails I ride are tight with a great deal of whoopty doo's in them which makes high speed travel very challenging on ...

Fuel consumption??
Can anyone give me an idea of what fuel consumption should be like on my JDX8? I took a 24 mile trail ride thru about 8" of fresh snow today. I ride in the hilly area of Berne NY and it was an amazing ride. Snow was coming down hard, trees were covered and I was the only one out. Got stuck a few...

Re: Fan Belt help!
Figured I would post a follow up. I just got back from my local small engine repair shop that has been there longer than I have been alive. I handed him the belt, he looked at the number on the belt and said it is a 1/2"x26" and that he had them in stock. When he came back I was grinning f...

Re: Fan Belt help!
Todd, thanks for that info. I will see if I can locate some of the spacers for future. Guys like you have been a valuable resource for helping me enjoy my old sleds more this season. I will be riding more today as well. Can't seem to get enough....

Re: Fan Belt help!
Todd, to my knowledge, I do not have any shims for the upper sheeve. I am simply hoping to grab a 26" belt tomorrow.

Re: Fan Belt help!
It is a '73 with a 15,000 serial number, so according to their listing, I ordered the correct belt. I don't know what went wrong, I merely wanted everyone else to know in case they were looking to order one. The people at Pat's were great and are sending me a return label. I have a large small engin...

Re: Fan Belt help! **EVERYONE READ THIS
Just want everyone to know that the current Dayco belt ADFB367 that is supposed to match JD part number M67762 is not even close. I ordered two belts from Pat's Small engine and went to replace the one on my wife's 73 400 and the belt is a full inch too long. No way it can be used. I did call them a...

Fan Belt help!
I have searched the internet and have not been able to find a source for the fan belt on my wife's '73 400. Maybe I missed something obvious, I don't know. If anyone has any info, I would certainly appreciate it. We just got about 10-12" of fresh snow and I want to make sure she is ready to go ...

Re: '73 400 problem/question
Kyle, I am right there with you on not spending the big cash if you are having the same if not more fun. I think the old sled, like old bikes, old boats, old cars etc, have a "cool factor" that I just don't see in the modern sleds. We had another great weekend running both sleds. My JDX8 fi...

Re: 5000 or so RPM stumble
Brian, I will try leaning out the idle mix as I have not played with that one yet. Maybe that will get me closer to where I want to be. I went thru 1.5 tanks of fuel yesterday and she ran great although the top end was inconsistent. I am off today and still at my camp so I will give it a try. As alw...

Re: '73 400 problem/question
Thanks for the info. I rode both sleds yesterday and my wife's 400 is running strong!According to the speedo(however accurate it may be), the old girl hit 50mph on the lake! It started easy on the second pull. I was on and off it at least a half dozen times and it started on the first pull every tim...
