79 john deere spitfire
I'm not sure if you've had the sled for a while but I've owned my 79 since the early 80s and it has always acted that way where the power goes down as it heats up. I've always just assumed it was normal for that sled. At temperatures below about 10 degrees it isn't much of a problem but if it gets w...

Liquifire Frustration
Sounds like it's too rich. I'd still go back and make sure the chokes aren't sticking somewhere and that they are for sure adjusted all the way down. The only other thing besides being jetted way to fat that comes to mind is if the floats are adjusted too high or the inlet valves aren't working.

Thanks everyone for the info. It looks like I can still get the CDI for about $70.

Sprintfire
Ever since the Sprintfire came out in the early 80's I've been curious how good a sled it is but never talked to an owner of one or drove one. Having a Spitfire it seemed to address all the shortcomings. Liquid cooled instead of free air, oil injection, longer travel suspension, slide valve carb, pl...

I had the same situation with my 79 Spit. The CDI is bad. Somwhere I have a paper that tells how to test the CDI with an ohm meter. One of the guys on here was nice enough to send it to me. I'll try to find it. Good luck in finding one. Apparently Pats Small Engine ( look in the suppliers list) has...

Yup. New plugs didn't change anything. I took out a plug and set it on the head to watch the spark. The spark was somewhat intermittent and the strange part is the engine ran the same. If I took out the plug on the other side the result was also the same. A slow and somewhat rough idle and that's it.

Idles but that's all
My first post here and of course it's because I have a problem. I got my 79 Spitfire going and it worked great for a couple of days. (I got this sled used in about 1983 and still love it.) The next day I went to use it and it started OK but that was all. It idles but when I give it some throttle it ...
