Re: 77 LF, Kiortz Rebuild, Yamaha Clutch Removal

Many clutches have a 30mm tapered bore that mates with the tapered crankshaft. Same concept as Morse taper drill bits. The big thing with clucthes is different manufacturers used different counter bore depth. It sticks in my mind that yamaha's bore depth was pretty close to what Deere used. As long ...

Re: 77 LF, Kiortz Rebuild, Yamaha Clutch Removal

Here's my comments. - I'm not a yamaha guy but a coworker told me his SRV had a comet clutch but it had M16 threads for the puller instead of 3/4. Only reason I mention this is because of your puller comment. New Breed Parts has the 3/4 comet puller but I,m wondering if you're dealing with metric pu...

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration

Seems like these socket head cap screws are M8x25. The Deere to kawasaki cross reference shows Deere M68115 is Kawasaki 120PO-825.

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration

The four bolts around the crank bearing attach the crank side of the motor to the bulkhead. They are socket held cap screws. I'll have to dig and see if I can find some to measure the lenght. When i seal up the oil pump case i usually install those bolts to hold the cover tight until the sealant cur...

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration

Wow....good job. Just a question, I see orange sealant. Back in the late 90s I bought a tube of sealant from my Deere dealer. They followed the trail of substitution and it ended up being some orange stuff made by GE. Would this happen to be what you used?

Re: Color code on engine plug

Warm starts seem to be an issue with these. One of mine, if you stop along the trail for over 5 minutes you better plan on 30 minutes. Backfiring doesn't sound normal. My mind goes to a lean condition when I hear backfire but it could be an ignition timing / flaky CDI issue also.

Re: Color code on engine plug

That looks correct to me. Here's that portion of the wiring diagram. The black wire of the CDI is connected tobthe with wire in the harmes and the brown wire if the cdi is connected to the black and white wire in the harnes. The reality is when the key switch or kill switch is in the position to sto...

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration

- The white sealant was factory sealant. - I've not used the permatex case sealant but some have said it's similar to the Yamabond and Threebond case sealant. - I've only ever used the Tiawan pistons (SPI, Lemans, part Unlimited), so no comment on pistons. - Your thought on returning the 2 intake oi...

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration

The dome of the Invader heads were shaped differently. The Liquifire engines were supposedly "de-tuned' to improve longevity. Those that know way more than me about squish bands will recommend using the Liquifire head with the aftermarket pistons available today. Eventhough I do have an Invader...

Re: 1981 Liquifire restoration

Welcome. Looks like you have quite the project there. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The air boxes in the one photo appear to be for a Kawasaki Invader. The Invaders used a very similar motor with a few small difference. Cylinder heads is one of the differences. I believe the liquifire heads have...

Re: Kevin's Liquifire

About two weeks ago Larry and I made the trip to the Ogemaw Hills Vintage Snowmobile Show. Last time I went to this show was literally a few days before the world shut down for the RONA. It was good to return, I've always enjoyed this show / ride. This year was by far the largest number of sleds I h...

Re: Stylizing at the RWTC

I know several have seen this one before but thought I'd share. I bought this modular helmet in 2013 and had a local graphics do the wrap. It honestly didn't turn out quite like I hoped but for what they charged me I'm OK with the results. It has made two trips to the RWTC....lol. 20250227_193658.jp...

Re: Trailfire Drive Bearing Help

As I was passing through the shop today I grabbed a shaft from a 80 Liquifire project (same shaft and bearing). The splined shaft should be hanging out of the bearing roughly 0.400".
