Re: JDX8 Lost All Spark

I had slipped sand paper between the points to "freshen" them up during this repair. It must be something with my re-assembly. I went back and more carefully examined the expanded parts diagram of the stator, and realize that for a JDX8 with my serial number, there are three wires that sol...

Re: JDX8 Lost All Spark

Thanks Dustin for the good advice. I tried for spark last night with the motor unplugged from the harness, and fiddled with the key and kill just in case, but nothing changed. I will put her back up on my bench and go into the flywheel again...and check back later with results.

JDX8 Lost All Spark

I'm hoping this will be a quick post and an easy solution. Was having weak/no fire spark issue on one cylinder on my '73 KEC 440/21. Had it running but flywheel side was not igniting. So with motor out of the sled, I took off the flywheel, took out the stator assembly to inspect. Looked good. Put it...

Re: JDX8 timing symptoms

Well, I adjusted the low speed needle on the Walbro and it helped only a little. So I swapped to a Mikuni set up and ran it. I did get it to idle down to about 2500 RPMs but it still seems spotty and jumpy. It'll sit at 2500 and then snap up to 2800,then climb up to 3000, then drop to 2500 and run t...

JDX8 timing symptoms

I've set the points and attempted timing the motor on my 73' X8. It runs strong from about 4000 RPMS and up according to the tach. Below that she misses a lot (I can see at the exhaust ports that she's not detonating consistently)and then dies. In other words, "idle" seems to be at about 4...

Re: Blitz black, is Blitz black, is Blitz black, is Blitz bl

Intersting post and comments guys, esp. to me having spent some time working in the commercial paint industry . In thinking about the original idea to go with a low gloss paint on the X series it seems counter-intuitive, almost gutsy for flashy products like sleds to roll off the line anything less ...

Identify this X8 Ignition

This is the ignition of my 73 X8. I'm not sure which maker it is from (Denso?). It says made in Japan on the back, but that's about it. I am replacing a condenser and am not sure what to order. The condensers were already different from each other, as one had been modified. I'm thinking that the wro...

Re: One side of JDX8 not detonating

Thanks for the replies. When I got the sled it ran, and had a lot of grime in the engine compartment(it has a leak around the Y pipe/muffler joint) and I didn't think too much about it since I was seeing some spark on both sides. So I suppose it has had this problem for a while based on the greasy e...

One side of JDX8 not detonating

I put new seals and gaskets into a 73 JDX8 motor that was in good condition; probably only 800 miles on it and it looked really clean inside. While still on the bench, I noticed it had weak and missing spark on the clutch side cylinder. When I got it back in the sled and fired it up without a muffle...

twin carbed JDX8?

Has anyone ever seen a '73 JDX8 set up with twin carbs? I'm wondering if it'd make much difference and if there were ever aftermarket intakes for this sort of set up? :letitsnow:

Re: Clutch removal JDX8

I ended up buying a clutch puller from MFG Supply(they were cheaper than Dennis Kirk) and it worked great on the comet clutch. Used a jaw type puller to get off the flywheel on the other side. Crank seals were easy to install then.

Re: Clutch removal JDX8

OK, that looks like what I was thinking of as a clutch specific puller. I don't own one...yet. Thanks for the link! I'm still going to try the trans fluid trick first since I just want to see if it works too.
