Re: Twin Oval Build
Sorry to hear about the Cyclone - you had a nice looking sled. In case you ever build another Cyclone, I wanted to pass along our experience in setting up our '78 Cyclone for ovals in MN. Our first test run on the ice with new Woodys carbides was scary - the sled would drive straight then suddenly d...

Re: Cyclone 340 Misses At Full Throttle
The CDI was the culprit! We changed everything to eliminate the high rpm miss (coils, trigger, flywheel, jetting), nothing worked. Did not think the CDI was the problem as they usually either work or they don't. Lastly, we found another CDI, installed it, and behold, the high rpm miss disappeared. N...

Re: Cyclone 340 Misses At Full Throttle
Thanks for all the tips. Will get back to everyone with what I find. Also, spoke to a guy who runs a small engine shop and he said he has had a number of older bikes come through that had good spark when first started but would develop a miss at high rpm when warmed up. He would check a coil by warm...

Re: Cyclone 340 Misses At Full Throttle
Choke plunger is good but not used. The engine requires higher octane fuel so we actually start engine with a squirt bottle containing lower octane gas. Plug color is tan/light brown, burn line on electrode is where it should be. The sled takes off like a rocket and runs the correct rpm. It continue...

Cyclone 340 Misses At Full Throttle
We built a '78 340 Cyclone for ice ovals. Engine uses stock pipe, intake, carb, and ignition. New seals and gaskets were installed when the engine was rebuilt. Our problem is the engine will begin to miss at full throttle when it fully warms up, usually one lap into the race. Back the throttle down ...

Re: Oversize 340 Cyclone Pistons
We purchased several sets of .040 over aftermarket pistons for our 340 Cyclone last year. Thought we had enough for our needs, but, a bad batch of race fuel wiped out a set so we are looking for another set as a backup. The .040 over pistons bring us closer to the class cc limit.
Thanks

Boyesen Reeds in Kioritz
Has anyone actually tried installing Boyesen Reeds from a Suzuki RM80 in their Kioritz? Any problems encountered? Information I recently received from Boyesen is that their part #610 should work on the stock Kioritz cage but their reed stop plate is also needed because of the dual overlapping reed d...

Weight of '76 vs. '78 Liquifire Tunnel & Bulkhead
Anyone know offhand what the approximate weight difference is between a '76 340 Liquifire and '78 340 Liquifire? I'm referring to only the tunnel and bulkhead - all other parts removed. Thanks for your help

Re: Polaris clutch on a Trailfire?
You may have an issue with clearance if using a Polaris primary clutch as the Polaris fixed sheeve is thicker than the 102c. We set up a '80 Sportfire for oval racing and converted the clutches from Comet to Polaris. We had to machine about .020 off the back side of the Polaris primary fixed sheeve ...
