JDT,
Not trying to sound ignorant (but I obviously am) which engines would be reed valve?
I know what reed valve 2 stokes are but which models and years had 440 reed valves that would be a pretty easy swap?

JD 600 Good doaner engine??
What would be a good easy bolt in replacement for the engine in a JD600 ('73).

Brian,
I was afraid that was the case. Any ideas where I can get the maint. manual?

Hi guys, me again. Finally got back to working on the sled, but not making much progress. I got the carb cleaned up and all but she still wont fire. (good spark too!). So I went back to basics.. I have spark. While I had both plugs out I stuck my thumb over the plug hole and pulled it over... cylind...

Re: 73' 600 wont start.
Matt, I went and looked. If it came with any documentation, I have misplaced it! Can you point me at a source for the information? If it matters, its a WDA32, and all three flapper springs are there (someone asked). I have the carb off again, so I will wait to see if I get a response on this before ...

Re: 73' 600 wont start.
OK, brand new symptom!!!!!!!!! So now, two or three pulls and there is fuel running out the air box side of the carb! Three or four good drops per pull! So the pump is definitely working! but something else is amiss. Any clues before I rip the carb back off and go through it again?

Re: 73' 600 wont start.
I replaced the fuel filter, and replace the pickup line in the tank (It had fallen...er rotted off and fell into the bottom of the tank. Is the return line supposed to also be below the level of the fuel? or does it just dump into the top of the tank? Is there a way to 'prime' a totally dry carberat...

73' 600 wont start.
Hoping someone can tell me what I'm missing! Used to working with bikes, so I'm a little novice on the two cylinder two strokes. I have a 73 (74?) 600 with the walboro carb. I pulled and rebuilt the carb (Cleaned it all out and all new gaskets). What a stack of pancakes! Is there some trick to getti...

Re: CCW kec-440 John Deere 600 Electric start?
By the way, JB weld does not conduct electricity so it will not provide a good bround. Good to know! So I guess, the intake is on the bottom of the 'jugs' so am I looking at read valve or piston port? (Guess I could pull the intake to find out for sure...) Can anyone tell me what I would expect to ...

Re: CCW kec-440 John Deere 600 Electric start?
Troy,
I hope I'm looking at this right (I'll try to get a pic posted) But the intake bolts to each of the jugs about a 1/4"(?) above the crank case.
(does that make sense?)

How big a process is that? Is there a way to determine if its really needed or not?
Can anyone point me to the procedure? (If its not hard I may just go ahead and do it.)

Re: CCW kec-440 John Deere 600 Electric start?
First guys I gotta say thanks for the info so far! I'm still a little confused on what I really have, but I'm getting closer to understanding the sled engine. (I mostly work on Bikes!) I actually started taking things off (haven't gone too far yet though). I pulled the plastic cover off the coils, a...

Re: CCW kec-440 John Deere 600 Electric start?
The correct engine was a KEC 440/5. What is in yours? The Plate on the flywheel cover says KEC 440/21... So do I have the wrong engine? If I have the Nippondenso magneto(John's comment above), does it have the same problem where the low speed coil doesn't work once warm? Making hot restarts VERY di...

Re: CCW kec-440 John Deere 600 Electric start?
OK, different track (no pun intended).
Can anyone tell me if the JD 600 has the Prestolite stator with two coils? (read in one of the tech articles)
The previous owner described exactly the symptoms... runs fine but once warm wont restart if shut down.
