Re: JD 800 points to CDI Conversion
Finally got some time and got it all figured out. First try I didn’t have the ground on the right wire at the coupler. Got that fixed and tried to start it. Put some fuel in cylinders and pulled 3-4 times and got nothing. Had good spark at the plugs. I switched the plug wires around and it started f...

JD 800 points to CDI Conversion
I have converted a 440/22 in my 800 from points to CDI with parts from a donor engine and new stuff from Hewtech. My question is with wiring to the sled wiring harness. What do I do with the 5 wires coming from the harness to the engine coupling? After studying the wiring diagrams for the 800 and fo...

Why no right side +.040 pistons?
I am trying to rebuild a 440/22 engine and have noticed there are no right side (mag) .040 over pistons available or at least I can’t find any. But left sides are available from various places. Why no right side .040 overbore kits? If someone has one for sale I would be interested

Re: 800 weak spark
The mag side piston looks normal to me. It’s slick and coated with oil film. 03E2BACC-8950-47EB-8EA8-7ABFB7424036.jpeg I haven’t got the clutch off yet to check the status of the new seal I put in there. The reeds were clean. I think the circlip jumped out of its groove and parts of it got by to the...

Re: 800 weak spark
I am thinking it’s more of a mechanical breakdown with the piston pin walking out instead of a lean fuel problem. I replaced the crank seals before running it as this is the first winter I’ve had it and I had the carb set by the book. Unless the reeds on that side are bad. I could be wrong and I gue...

Re: 800 weak spark
So I found a few problems. When checking for spark again I was getting major spark leakage off the plug wires and through my hands to ground. So I replaced the plug wires and put new champion rn2c in it. I also took the carb off and found the silencer and the carb throat had sucked a bunch of belt d...

800 weak spark
I rebuilt the ignition on my 800 new points, condensers and coils and got timed in good by the manual. Started right up and ran good. Ran a couple fast laps around the hay field and then it developed a miss. Got back to the shop and the #1 plug was damp and is showing a weak spark. Now I’m stumped. ...

400 Foot treads
I am working on a ‘72 400 resto. I am wondering if I can get some ideas on how to re-stick the foot tread rubbers back on the floorboards. I used a heat gun to get them off and there is old adhesive on them. What would work to reattach them? Thanks

76 300 giving me fits
This 300 quit running late last season so I parked it for the summer. It was hard to start and get running. I rebuilt the carb and put new seals in the engine 6 or 7 years ago and the sled always ran good. Today I pulled the carb and tore it down and found the fuel pump leaf spring (the tin one with...

Salsbury 780 Spline Liners
I took my salsbury 780 off my 300 apart this winter to clean and inspect it. The wear parts were really worn so I swapped the bushings and liners for some better used ones out of another clutch. After about an hour of run time, the clutch completely ate all the spline liners. 3 of them got out of th...
