Re: Manitoba Vintage Rides
I hope to make it out to at least one of these rides next year (if all goes well) with my newly restored Sportfire. Would like to meet some other JD aficionados

Re: 80 Sportfire Resto
I read that somewhere on here, I don't think there should be an issue. There is some pitting on the crank and i'll try to get a pic, but i would like to know from other MB members if there is anywhere in Wpg other than Greg's that can tell me if it's rebuildable or not, since they are closed till th...

Re: 80 Sportfire Resto
Looking at the crank right now, both rods seem to rotate pretty smoothly and there is very little side-side play so i think i'm safe.

Re: 80 Sportfire Resto
I'm goin to look at it tomorrow but i think the rods rotate ok, just depends how much side-side play there is. The motor is already completely torn down, mostly cleaned or painted ready to go. My first goal is to get it running since i have all summer to work on the rest of it. I could do a build th...

Re: 80 Sportfire Resto
From what i've seen the trailfires have a 10 blade fan not 9. Thanks for all the help guys. I've gotten this far as far as teardown/parts without much insight into it, i do have the IPC and service manuals so that has helped a lot. I'm glad i turned to this site to help me the rest of the way and ho...

Re: 80 Sportfire Resto
So, Jerome says approx cost for my crank is ~$260. But told me that if the rods or rod bearings are no good then i will have to find another crank as they are unavailable. Can someone tell me how to find out if they are good or not before i send it out?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: 80 Sportfire Resto
I tried searching ebay but came up with nothin since the shipping is more than the part. The reason i would rather get the crank rebuilt here is because i don't want to have to ship it unless i have to. I work in an upholstery shop so i will be redoing the seat myself. It does have the chrome shocks...

Re: 80 Sportfire Resto
Thanks fellas, it does have some sentiment to me and i think it will be a great learning experience for me. I was wondering if i could get the crank rebuilt, who is Jerome? I would like to find someone or place around Winnipeg to do it. I've already got the gaskets, crank seals and new sliders for i...

Re: Got carried away vworking on my Deere's
i use a Mr. Heater kerosene heater in my garage, i burn diesel since it's cheaper than kerosene. i've had this happen a few times and it is a real pain in the ass. it shuts off when it runs low but smokes the place out first.
