Re: Seized cross shaft.

I'm going to try freezing it and shocking it first. I figure that the aluminum expands/contracts by different amounts. If I can get them down to -20C, that might get the shaft to move. Once it moves, then it shouldn't be hard to get out.

Re: Liquifire deep snow kit mounting.

Awesome, not sure how I missed that but foggy brain gets me once in a while.

Thanks a lot.

Seized cross shaft.

I've got a cross shaft seized into my rear trailing arm. Penetrating oil, heat, and hydraulic press all applied but three days on, no movement.

Front was easy. Going to add grease zerks on both to prevent reoccurrence and make servicing easier.

Liquifire deep snow kit mounting.

I was sure the specs had been posted before but for the life of me, I can't find them.

I'm looking for the rear swing arm mounting point adjustment to fit the deep snow kit rear arm.

Nick,

Is that how it was when you found it? Did it run?

Re: Never check, assume! - well, she's running anyway.

Hasn't seemed so awesome thus far, but I hope it works out. The Invader job was done by 'Checkmarks' who shows up on this forum occasionally but is mostly found on the kawatrax site. It seems to have worked well for him and I've used his starting point for my experiment so I'm not going in totally b...

Re: Liquifire secondary spring

So NOS or give the Polaris spring a try.

Thanks, at least I know what to expect.

Re: Never check, assume! - well, she's running anyway.

OK, time to wake up this old thread to update progress (or lack thereof) and capture comments on my setup(s). After several weeks of frigging around, I joined the Air Reserves in February. OK, not because the Liquifire was frustrating me, it was pre-planned as I retired as a regular May last year an...

Re: Liquifire secondary spring

Thanks fellas, all three secondary springs I have are blue but they're all in varying states of de-sprung. When looking at the fine tune manual, none of them needs the pre-load that it describes so I'd like at least one new one. 'River Rat' from this forum suggested the Polaris 7041296 (wire diamete...

Liquifire secondary spring

Does anyone know of a source for new (NOS) M66378 secondary springs?

Is there a modern equivalent anywhere?

Re: suspension on a 80 liquifire

I agree that rear springs are not growing on trees but I found two new sets last week. One NOS JD set and one Kimpex. I also got one set of NOS front springs too. Therefore, before I put my hands up and surrender to the coil-over mods, I'm going to talk to a custom spring shop to see what it'd take ...

Re: Never check, assume! - well, she's running anyway.

The JD and Polaris Stators are virtually identical so I'm working on a 'get it working' plan first. Magnet positioning on the flywheel is also identical.

I've got a digital laser tach that I'll use to confirm the reading once I've got it working and go from there.

Never check, assume! - well, she's running anyway.

Finally finished installing/wiring in my Polaris stator/flywheel/CDI so I pulled her over and SPARK! A few more pulls and four pulls after fuel was seen bubbling through the line to the float bowl and my 1980 Liquifire was running with a '86 Polaris Indy 400 ignition system. Starts better than it ev...

Re: Suspension springs

So far I've managed to get a pair of NOS front springs, and two pair of rear springs, three of which are NOS and one is Kimpex. These are the stock springs and I don't know what the deep snow kit springs are like in comparison. I'd imagine that they're stiffer as they're for a longer swingarm. Less ...
