Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Update: Last Friday, I took all four cylinders I have here to a friends home, where he has a nice, well equipped home machine shop on his back property. We locked the cylinder down in a fixture we quickly whipped up to hold them steady on the mill bed and used a 1/4" flat end mill to do the mac...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
By the way~ For those of you that may want to do this modification, I've found that an air die grinder or a Dremel doesn't fit very well in the small cylinder or the port itself to properly chamfer the port edge at the correct angle or width- at least not for my tastes, because I found it nearly imp...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Do you intend on bringing the engine here to be fitted or are you or Bob doing the modification yourself? It makes no difference to me, just curious..WinnipegStPaul9 wrote:Finally, I am willing to "donate" an RS/2 to this project and put the miles on if needed.

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Coming from a medical background I demand evidence based research before making an informed decision. Everyone that has an idea of which piston to use, put a set in, run the sled for 500 miles and I guess we'll know what works and what doesn't. Until then everyone's ideas are unfounded. The proof i...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Took some detailed, macro photographs of intake and exhaust port leading edges of a 340s cyclinder that some of you paranoid, glass-half-empty, don't-think-it-will-work types should appreciate... I've taken some more measurements and edited the pictures to clearly show what I've been talking about, ...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Ohhhhhhh, so you're the "Wade Bennet" Mitch spoke of.... Well, heck, I know you then, but I guess I only knew you as just plain ol' "Wade"....
Duhhhhh!
Sorry buddy, I just failed to connect 2 + 2!
Send me a PM if you have any other info for these parts.

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Good point and that is a very good lesson that everyone should learn from, as no piston, no matter who manufacturers it or how it's made, will live very long in the wrong mechanical environment. It would behoove everyone to take the time to actually measure bore clearances to make sure whatever pist...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
PJ & Mitch, Im sharing my lesson learned on the 340/S piston. This is what forced me down the road of the Wiseco 2012 piston. This was my mag side piston. It caught the top ring in the port. It broke the edge of the crown off but didn't break the ring and luckily blew it out the exhaust. I didn...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
First off, this is NOT "my idea" here... I was given these pistons to install into these engines and I was asked if they would "fit". Rather than blindly stabbing them in and saying "yes" to that question without regard to the potential consequences of that statement, I...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Don't know about the inventory consumption, but I do know, from what I've directly seen, measured and test-fit here myself, this appears to be a viable, relatively inexpensive solution to the replacement 340s piston issue that's been plaguing everyone for years. As I've said before in previous posts...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
We'll do Mr. Sprailfire sir....
Oh..I'll try to take macro pictures of the modification if I can, but it's pretty tight in there and I don't know just yet if I can get a camera shot in there or not.

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
Uhhmmmmmm...... TMI sir...TMI  OK, OK, you are probably right. AS for this "camfer mod" is it as simple as a die grinder to take off the leading edge or am I missing your point entirely? Yep, a die grinder with a fine tooth, cross-hatch burr or a Dremel tool would probably work just...

Re: Confirmed piston replacement solution for the 340s engin
I just came back from the garage, where I measured the position of the second piston ring in relation to the apex of the "tear drop" in the intake port. The second ring is approx. .038" lower than the apex at BTDC and the top ring is fully enclosed within the cylinder walls and transf...
