Were the "L" pipes considered a higher performance pipe?

I have multiple exhaust pipes off of the "fire" series of sleds and there appears to be two different designs?? Can anyone tell me anything about the two designs and possibly the performance values of them? The one style of pipe has an "L" welded on the top of the main body direc...
