Fall Sled Hauing...VT to MN

Joe
Do you go through Chicago on your trip? I don't need sleds or anything but I will be attending Illinois Tech there this fall and it would be cool to meet up with another JD sled enthusiast.

swapping engines-JDX4 to 300

sorry about the mistake, recent check of the service manual shows that they all did have 780s. My question is, Rich, did Deere have a replacement program then for the 850's? I though that all Salisburys were phased out after the 73 model year but i guess not. I am also so used to having all of my gr...

swapping engines-JDX4 to 300

Wouldn't the X4 have a Salisbury on it? Your 300 should have a Comet and if this is the case then you should put the 300's Comet 100c on your X4 engine.

clutch pulling

screwing in the clutch puller is no help if there is no way to hold the clutch still. on my trailfire, i used a pipe wrench which i wouldn't suggest unless you don't have something else. put sled on side and filled with penetrating oil, tightened as much as i could. my dad and i ended up putting a p...

spitfire backfiring

ok, dk trader had stuff cheap so i figured i'd get new trigger coils and coil ignitor so i can say thats its not the electrical itsself and i will get a new flywheel when i got to the junkyard. also, is the spit engine the c202 or the a202? i could have put the part with the wrong tag back on it as ...

spitfire backfiring

i don't know if this is right but i think that the cdi is part of the coil ignitor itsself. stator plugs directly into coil and then goes directly to plugs, no box like on kohlers and cyclones. could someone expain how that works?

spitfire backfiring

i just rebuilt the entire engine and put the stator how the sm told me too and whre it was before. i think the broken magnets was a disassembly thing but it was replaced with a mechanically sound one. i also thing that it might be somewhat impossible to put those stators on upside down, they are pre...

spitfire backfiring

got the timing light on it today and located where i'm firing. i'm 180 off. but when i tried switching the plugs to get it to run right, it still backfires and doesn't start. i know that it is firing backwards but i don't know why it won't start now. my next theory is that twyhen the wires cross, th...

liquid-cooled sleds

just out of curiosity, how come deere liquid cooled sleds are considered the performance sleds? they all got dual carbs except for the sprintfire, but no regular production fan cooled sled ever got twins. also, in the 76 model year, with basically the same engine, a liquifire has 11 more horsepower....

paint color for green sleds

ok, so i know the tunnel color and bogie colors. now a couple of more things to paint: the track tensioners on the idler set. also, what black were all of the components, flat or gloss? i'm also guessing that the gas tank wasn't winterfrost 2 so i need a color for that. also, was the muffler silver ...
