steering linkage freeze up
I had to plug the drain holes on the bottom of my sled because snow was getting IN there. I finally covered up part of the headlight opening to keep the snow out. I am eventually going to make my own grill or screen cover up that opening.

steering linkage freeze up
Checked the belly pan it is not bent. Snow gets in the headlight opening, melts and forms a chunk of ice on botton of belly pan and locks up the steering. Dug this out twice this year so far. How much of the air intaks can I block off and not have over heating problems?

steering linkage freeze up
Anyone have problems with snow getting in the hood and freezing up the steering linkage? I duct taped the holes on the belly pan, still coming in the headlight opening. Thinking of partially covering that opening up.

Getting off stuck flywheel
Yea thanks, I read that. I decided to just clean the points through the flywheel slots and go from there. It does run and the spark looked pretty good. I just wanted to change the points and condensors anyway. I am usually able to get the flywheels off, so this is a first for me.

Getting off stuck flywheel
It is a 1973 440 axle fan Kaw. This machine has been out side forever, some rust on steel parts. I am even having trouble getting the two halfs of the axle fan pulley off. On the flywheel I have been using a steering wheel puller with grade 8 bolts and an elec. impact wrench, lots of heat and pen. o...

Getting flywheel off Kaw 440
It is out of a AC Cheetah 1973. I know this particular machine has been out side for a long, long, time. There is some rust on steel parts. I am even having trouble getting the two pieces of the axel fan pulley apart. I have been using a three bolt steering wheel puller with an electric impact wrenc...

They are going up to 163'' tracks, and I have not ridden anything that long, but the long tracks I have ridden I did not like. Yes, they are designed to climb mountains. But most of the people around here just ride them for show on the flats. Those who do climb mountains usually end up killing thems...

The new sleds look STUPID. I do not know about anywhere else, but in the west the only thing people want is the long track models. And they have got them so LONG now that there is no way you can turn them. They handle like crap! And half the time the only place people ride them is on the trail. It i...

Restoration or Cheap Power?
Just curious who is into restoration and who is just into getting sleds running and not too concerned about what they look like. As for me. I have bought sleds with the full intent of doing restoration, they tend to be sleds that are pre-1970. I have also bought sleds with no intention of restoratio...

Engine gaskets
I just want your advice. Do you guys use any type of "sealer" on the engine gaskets? On other machines, not snowmobiles, I have used a non-hardening black liquid, that is made by Permatex, it comes in a plastic bottle with a brush built into the cap. I know others use a silicone calk type ...

Yea, I have noticed that problem too, I have a Ski-doo with a bad voltage regulator and it only blows the headlight bulb, the brake lights still work. Maybe because they are not on that much

Yea, the place I got the Mikuni brand o-rings was a Polaris dealer that has been around for a long time, and they knew exactly what what I was talking about. Maybe you will have to do some calling around.

They are a Mikuni part, I bought some at the local motorcycle/snowmobile shop. They come in a pack of 10 for $2.50 as I recall.

Dept of Natural Resources Strikes again
Honestly, I thought that I read somewhere that it is that way now. But you can ride your own 4-stroke and limited number of sleds daily. Not so? You are correct, it is that way in Yellowstone now! In the future the only difference is they want to restrict the number of machines per day even further...

Here in Idaho it is $21.50. My only beef with this is it is required whether I ride on their $%^@ trails or not, which I don't. I don't buy registration and don't ride on groomed trails, just on open land by my house. If I decide to ride on groomed trails, then I will buy a sticker-fat chance! State...
