440 CCW engine parts

I am looking for 68mm pistons and rings for my 1973 JD500, CCW 440cc. I am having the engine redone and the person working on it recommended new crank bearings, and new points. I am having trouble locating these parts. I was able to find the complete gasket set. Anyone got any of these parts, or a l...

Re: JD model 500

Yes I looked at the serial number and it is in the 12000's, so I have a 73. That ends that round. Now the fun starts. I am going to take some pictures this weekend as my grandson and I start disassembling the sled. One of the first things I know I need is a pair of year correct skis. The one that ca...

Re: JD model 500

Thanks! I appreciate the input. Like I said, I am still learning. Looks more like I have a 73 instead of the 72 I was told when I bought. I am sure I will be asking some more dumb questions as I go along. Glad I found this place for good information!

Re: JD model 500

Okay gang, I need a little additional info. After investigating a few sites I found serial numbers for Deere's and some descriptions. Now I am wondering what year I have. The serial number starts with 12000 which is 73, and I have catches at the front of the seat for hold down (which I saw was a dif...

Re: JD model 500

Thanks for the input. It is much appreciated. Took a quick look at links you sent. Will look at closer when at home. Looks like I have a bit to learn about Deeres, but I will trudge ahead on this and learn as I go.

Re: JD model 500

Thanks for the reply! We have not gotten into it yet, but the tunnel, boogies, track, etc look okay. The chain case is apart, but it looks like all the parts are there in plastic bags. The main thing I notice missing is some of the black plastic shrouds around the engine, needs a new seat, and a tai...

JD model 500

Hello, I am new to John Deere sleds. I recently acquired a 72 model 500 to restore and I am courious as to how compatible a 73 JDX8 is parts wise. I may be able to pick one of these up. If someone can let me know I would appreciate it. Hopefully as I go along I will become more familiar with the var...
