Re: Spitfire restoration

Very nice... Did you have to replace the carb? I cleaned and cleaned the butterfly carb that came with, and finally purchased a new VM30 for it... Hopefully it does the job... All I have left is the oil seals, then the motor is going back in and we should be in business... Can't wait to get it runn...

Re: Spitfire restoration

I thought so... Just got the cup and spacer off last night. I will be working on the flywheel in the next day or so... Would a generic/adjustable puller work? Also, a friend of a friend is a self-proclaimed JD guy... He said the only way to do the oil seals is to crack open the bottom block... Not ...

Spitfire Seat Restoration

Bought the cover off eBay, made new oak rails and used a lot of patience. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170103/ae34a60a73f34e38de1fd3c645ce7bdb.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170103/851888f204071af81f96fdfda1f218ef.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170103/652bfa570f6e9afcca80b29e72b91...

Spitfire Headlight Springs

According to the parts manual, the # of headlight springs required is 4. There are only 3 screws that hold the headlight assembly to the cowl. Can anyone go take a look at their Spitfire and see if perhaps one of the screws is supposed to have 2 springs on it, while the other two have 1 spring on it...

Spitfire Mikuni Butterfly Carb O-ring

I know they don't sell rebuild kits for these carbs, but does someone have the spec for the o-ring used for the bowl seal? My carb is in good working order, but have a drip at the bowl in need to eliminate.

Registering in NY State

Want to register our '79 Spitfire to make the paperwork from the original owner officially "ours". We have no intentions of leaving the yard with this machine. Is there any other option for transfer of ownership short of forking out 100.00 to NYS to register this thing? Sent from my iPhone...

Re: Recoil Rope replacement Trailfire

Is your old rope still in place? If so, pull it all the way out and use something to lock the spindle from rewinding. Cut your old rope, feed through your new rope, knot it and remove whatever you used to lock your spindle in place so the new rope can retract. I just did our spitfire like this and i...

Re: Spitfire firing on clutch side cylinder only

My pressure readings are consistent between both cylinders. The gauge is from Harbor Freight, so I wouldn't be surprised if its reading lower than what the Kohler is actually generating, plus it's running well. I have a tire filler/gauge from there that is no where close to 3 others in my tool box. ...

Re: Spitfire firing on clutch side cylinder only

Minor ID10T error on my part in figuring why the machine will only fire on one cylinder today. The previous owner replaced the ignition coil and had the plug wires on reversed. I assumed they were right and never checked them. As soon as I swapped them around the sled runs as it should. I ordered cr...

Re: Spitfire firing on clutch side cylinder only

I borrowed a compression tester from a friend to check this weekend and I'll share the readings. I have spark and gas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Compression test today 10.20.16 Mag side = 100PSI, Clutch side = 100PSI. Will order crank seals and gasket kit today. Cylinders don't appear scor...

Re: 1982 John Deere Trailfire LX

Dan, Pat is right in that you need to use the correct tool. Your sled should have a 102 clutch and http://www.newbreedparts.com offers the correct tool for removal. Become familiar with New Breed Parts as they are a great "go to" source. DA I'm trying one of these methods before I invest ...
