Re: Yamaha TW 433
Thanks! That helps a ton. I figured there had to be a free downloadable manual out there. It will probably be a bit before I can really tare into it due to money constraints this month (heck, why else do I mess with old stuff besides the fact that they are cool) but I will be sure to post updates.

Re: Yamaha TW 433
Thanks for the info, much appreciated! That makes me feel better about my buy that I won't have to replace everything suspension related. That carb is unlike anything I have ever seen or worked on before, but I am always looking for something new to learn. I believe the fuel lines running from the t...

Yamaha TW 433
Hi all, Just picked up this 1974 Yamaha TW 433 yesterday. I'm excited to work on it as I have never done bogie wheel suspension. Been watching some youtube videos which have been helpful. The neat thing about this sled is that it has a hydraulic drive. It has a torque converter driven by a belt from...

Re: 1981 Trailfire Flooding
The trailfire plastic tanks have a tendency to get a weird gunk built up in them, especially when they have had fuel sit in them for a few years. I remember reading this from the technical information page on this site: "The #1 failure reason for JD snowmobiles is dirty carbs. The plastic JD us...

Re: 1981 Trailfire Flooding
+1 to 400brian. They do have the rectangular pumps. They are indeed simple, although I would almost think if anything went wrong with them it would cause less pressure, not more. Who knows though, I have seen weirder things on these machines:P As far as another next step, do you have a filter in the...

Re: Barn find trailfire 440 problems #2
I ran into the same problem on my 440. I tore it all down, only for mine both pistons were seized from sitting. Make sure you have the bottom of the case apart so you do not wreck the bearings by putting undo force on them. I used a big brass drift (punch) and brass hammer to beat the things out of ...

Re: 1981 Trailfire Flooding
Have you set your float height correctly? You can have as many new parts as you want, but if the float height is wrong it will continue to let fuel in. Per the manual: "Float arm should be parallel with the carburetor body." Set it with the float bowl off and the carb upside down. Let us k...

Re: HELP!! Snowmobile Insurance
Have you checked out Hagerty? I know they are associated with fancy cars typically, but older stuff is their thing. Do a Google search for Hagerty Classic car insurance. They do insurance for antique tractors, maybe it could be classified as that?

Re: 1982 trailfire 440 Exhaust flange
Can you post a picture of what your problem is? Its possible the flange is wearing out from natural causes like rust, age, use. If you are having trouble with it sealing, I would try Permatex Ultra Copper RTV. It takes about a day to dry before you can test it, but it is a nice high temp RTV meant f...

Re: Barn find trailfire 440 problems #2
I had the same issue when I first bought my 81 trailfire 440. Clutch side piston was stuck in the cylinder. To get it free I used a big brass hammer and brass punch and ended up beating the piston out. I used Aerokroil to help loosen the corrosion causing it to stick. Be careful not to score the cyl...
