I think Joel Herring was from ND, maybe Grand Forks? I dont know what happened to him & Larry Bjorkland the 2nd day. They were both very good hard riders back then. I ran with both of them at times in the ditches, they were fast.

2010 VC Ride!
Hi guys
Sounds like I better get rooms reserved also. We should have some awards next year, best restoration job, a small drag race, best overall vintage look (suit & sled) oldest sled to finish, youngest rider, oldest rider, a special award for any Dater that finishes, lol.

1976 race photos from CJ Ramsted
I have many rare race photos from 76 thru 79, most were taken by CJ. I am asking if the group is interested in having them on the site & if so who do I contact to get it done.

Park Rapids Race 1976
We did not work on the Thunder cats, they were happy to get our brake though. We were on test trips to Alaska with the Tcat crew. Roger Skime was trying to get a track that would hold up to the speed the T cat generated. We were at Summit Lake lodge for 2 weeks in Oct. of 92. Roger would blow up 2 t...

Park Rapids Race 1976
One reason Hubert & I left JD after the 76 season is we did not think Deere would be competitive on a year old machine. We were wrong, with the up grades the Dater was an excellent XC racer, better than the 77 CCcat. The 77 CCCat had an extremly peaky engine, the ski shocks did not work at all, ...

Park Rapids Race 1976
Park Rapids was always a long 1 day event. The majority of the trail was woods racing, the course was a little different every year. In 76 there was road racing, woods , lakes, and a little ditch running. Bobby Enns started in the flight ahead of me, Tom Otte was in my flight, If I remember correctl...

In response to your question on the # on the Dater that followed me most of the way to Minot, I did not see the #. Some one else asked where my home was back then and its the same as now, Spicer Mn. I started out in Willmar and moved to Spicer in 1976.

Race story
A good race for JD was Regina to Minot. It was all ditches, fast, hard snow and rough. We were going south so it was not as bad as going north, we were getting a ramp effect off the drifts and not hitting as many sharp edges. After the first day Team Arctic had the first 3 spots, I was in 4th, Ron R...
