Leaky Chain Case
Cyclone chain case leaks its oil. I will put a paper towel at its bottom during storage and a month later the towel is oil soaked. It is not coming out of the plugs, it must be coming out of the bottom along the gasket. I have fooled with the black gasket several times. No luck.
Does anyone have a new gasket for sale or does someone have a trick to seal it up?

New Breed Parts has them also...Terre
At least I thought I saw them on there last night when I was looking, but now I couldn't find them. Matt, do you carry the gasket for the chain case?

If it's the same one the Fire series uses, the Polaris replacement, yes: http://newbreedparts.com/index.php?rout ... uct_id=157

Re: Leaky Chain Case
Worse case scenario is that it's a little too long so it might have to be cut. No big deal to do that.

The " O " ring could be leaking between the bearing flangettes too.

Pat, wouldn't that show on the inside of the tunnel instead of under the chaincase? I have to admit it can be a bear to get the "O" ring positioned correctly.harleysportster wrote:The " O " ring could be leaking between the bearing flangettes too.

Re: Leaky Chain Case
Yea, good point. There is a gasket between the chaincase and tunnel that could be a problem.WinnipegStPaul9 wrote:Pat, wouldn't that show on the inside of the tunnel instead of under the chaincase? Re: Leaky Chain Case
Correct. And let me point out that NOS cork gaskets (M63228) most likely have shrunk over the past 30 years. I've tried soaking them in water over night but never got one back to it's original dimensions. Not knocking our friends that have NOS ones to sell but buyer beware. Best of buy new cork or similar material and make your own in my humble opinion.

Re: Leaky Chain Case
I've had the same issue with a few sleds with new o-rings. After a few weeks there would be a quarter sized puddle in the pan. I started torquing the the lower and center bolt to the final torque first and then the top one last. This seems to help. Newer sleds have more bolts which give a more even torque on the cover.

Jack, my torqueing procedure amounts to tightening until my wrist snaps...........is that ok?

Re: Leaky Chain Case
Did anyone confirm if the new breed gasket would work for the cyclone chain case?

Re: Leaky Chain Case
Ugh, bloody knuckles. Theres 2 things I know I will cut my right pinky knuckle doing no matter what precautions I take. The bottom exhaust manifold springs on ZR-2 chassis Arctic Cats and some random piece of sharp plastic while removing MAG side heater lines from REV carbs. I usually get the bloody knuckles on JDs tightening the chaincase drain plug. One of these days I'll wise up and use a box end wrench instead of a the socket wrench that's usually near by. If you can't get it to stop leaking......there's always duct tape.
