340/s decals

Post by 340s »

Hi Guys,

Been gone a long time! Thank god my son's 3 yrs old now. He's old enough to take to the garage to help his Dad now! The sled gods were starting to get angry at me LOL.

Anyway, I decided to get my 340/s engine shroud welded and repainted as it's a mess.

That led to me looking closely at the 340 RS/2 decal and realizing it is metal I think. I am going to have to get the '340 RS/2' decal copied but just in vinyl or reflective foil rather than metal. Also, I am getting the shroud and belt caution decals remade too. I am not sure but maybe the exact belt guard decal on the 340/s was used on another sled and is easy to find?

I think there is also a caution decal on the airbox but mine is missing. Anyone have a photo and the dimensions they could post and I could get that made too? If there's any other small decals I missed, please let me know and I would like to get them made too if possible.

My plan is to get 10 sets made (3 caution decals = 1 shroud, 1 belt guard, 1 airbox as well as the 'John Deere 340 RS/2' decal = 4 decals total).
3 sets of decals I would keep for myself and then sell 7 sets when others need them just at my cost only plus the postage (which shouldn't be much). Just thought I'd check with you guys as I am getting some made for myself regardless and most of you regular guys here have helped me out at one time or another. Please post if you are interested so we have an idea of the interest level, if any. No commitments at this point. I just want to know if I should consider making extra for anyone else other than myself.

I would rather not sell more than 7 copies but if there is need then I will try to arrange a good bulk deal to get more made.

Keep in mind guys that the new decals are being made using old decals for measurements and reference, not using scanned NOS decals, so they will not be 'exact' but they are being done by a professional company so I anticipate excellent results.

Thanks!
Craig

There has been back burner talk of having these done for years, but nothing has come of it to the best of my knowledge.

However, we have a list member who I believe has the ability to do these, and he can do them from a photograph.
You have to lay a ruler beside the decal so he can pick up the scale, and I believe that once he has the decal on file, he can make them whenever the demand warrants. I recently had him make me some '72 tunnel decals, and I would have posted about this sooner, but I have yet to put one on and get a photo of the finished product.

Everyone with a 340/S needs these, but admittedly that is not a huge number. All these decals are specific to the 340/S.

BTW, the guy I'm talking about is in Canada as well, wanna talk?

The "RS/2" tag is indeed metal. It can be removed and reinstalled but you have to be careful. As to the belt guard and airbox, I really don't remember a decal. Anyone???

Hi Guys,

Here is what I have for the 3 decals currently. Sorry they are kind of blurry but at least you get the idea.
Pretty sure the belt guard decal was original but then again maybe my decal was added later?
Still wondering about the airbox decal (4th decal) as it seems to me I saw one on on of the members 340/s pics. I could be wrong though. Might have to look through a bunch of old jpegs and check if no one recalls for sure.

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Guys,

I found the pic where I saw the airbox decal on the 340/s. Anyone have one on their 340/s or do you think this was added afterwards?

Note: I found this pic I attached at http://www.vintagesnowmobiles.50megs.co ... H_180.html

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Brian,

Thanks for posting the pic. Would you mind posting a close up of the airbox decal with a ruler beside it to guage the size?

Here is a pic of my sled but notice there is no metal top on the airbox like in your pic. Anybody know if some airboxes on the 340/s were made without the metal top?

Thanks,
Craig
