Secondary clutches

Post by S_Kyle »

I was working in the garage with Adam this afternoon. WE have swapped a 74 300 drive train into my Rupp 100 miler. We got to the point of installing the secondary we hit a snag. First the buttons I have and though were for that era of Deere's don't fit, can anyone identify these buttons?

Secondly, the movable face has some fine cracks in it. I =am a little nervous about running the clutch like this as I fear it exploding on me. What do you guys think.

Thirdly, what is this bushing for? It fits into the fixed face but will not fit onto the secondary shaft.

Lastly, are the comet secondaries the same diameter as the Salsbury? I have to look around for a secondary and wonder if I am going to through this off if I find a comet and use it in place of the salsbury. I have already moved the motor mounts on the rupp and got everything squared up to use a certain belt and don't want to have to buy a different belt or move things again.

Thanks
Scott

I would recommend looking for a different clutch or at least a sheave.
Cracks like that can bring bad news.
Finding things like this is why it is so imporant to tear everything apart for close inspection.

If that bushing does not fit on the shaft where did you find it????

Those buttons are the later version, Deere only used 2 versions. These are the ones you need:

we took the secondary clutch back off the shelf to mock it up today, I had gone through and cleaned it all up. That bushing was taped inside the bore of the fixed sheave, it fits perfect in the chaincase side against a small shoulder. But we have no idea why it is there :wall: lol
