Re: NOS 340/S OEM Bumper

I'm posting a message & attachment for Kenny:

Brian, the price that I quoted was for that actual bumper extrusion, not
a extrusion that could be formed into the bumper ( I hope I'm explaining
this right ). The only thing we would have to do is make the bends and
drill the holes to bolt up to the pan. Attached is the measurements for
the extrusions that I have and a picture of it.

the groove in the back is for the self tapping screws to screw into to secure the hood brackets through the pan to the bumper those screws are still available from deere , so one less process to have to complete wade

I had no idea the bumper was this complicated. It would appear to not be an "off the shelf" extrusion, and that generally means more money. :bonk:

Why cant you keep it more simple. Groove on the backside that holds the self tapping screws are worthless. Front side only helps with alignment of the decal stripe. Different material maybe? If this bumper has some slight changes not sure anybody would notice or care...........Just throwing it out there.

Another option might be to take more common bar stock, and machine it to the general profile.
Now as for bending it...that's another issue.

I agree with Chuck that the self tapping screws just wouldn't fit the bill for me personally either, I was thinking on using gussets to make the bumper function-able so a person could lift the front of the sled by it no matter which pan a person was using..
It would make more sense to find a extrusion that is close & like Brian says mill it to be close to the OEM one, IF we can find anything close is another question though?? It would or at least should be cheaper to use something we can find that would work & then only have to purchase 15, 8' sticks or so & then we won't have the overhead of having 100+ 8' sticks left over & paid for...

Hi Grumpy,

Have a custom die done to the correct shape is a much cheaper solution compared to having an existing extrustion milled I believe. I would suggest going with the correct looking and fitting stock profile if at all possible.

I agree that the self tapping screws don't hold up, but one of my sleds with 4,500 miles on still had them in place. It would be nice to have that option for a trailer queen or such.

Good luck Grumpy, and thanks for looking into this for all of us.

Kenny

It's a rectangular bar: 1" x 1.25" x 8' long.

The 1 1/4 ( 1.25" ) is pretty close to the 1.2 your drawing shows. 5/8 would be closer for the other dimension, ( rather than the full inch), but that is the only choice from Wicks.

But wait!

I found what I was looking for at Onlinemetals: http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cf ... &top_cat=0 .625 x 1.25 x 8'
Their phone number is at the bottom of the linked page, give them a call if interested and see if you can negotiate on the shipping.
