Re: ski spreaders?
These were an aftermarket item, the catalogs generally had them. Years ago they were talked about every winter here. Some guys liked them, others not so much. Mid-mounts were the model of choice to see them on.
Also, years back, it seemed that every winter someone would get a mid-mount running, take it for a spin, then come on here describing it as a "deathtrap"! Way too tippy and unstable!
Being as my JDX8 has finished the Vintage Challenge 4 times in a row, I dispute that assessment. But you do have to RIDE them.

Re: ski spreaders?
Brian you are spot on. We mid-mount riders should be able to qualify for a healthcare rebate for gym membership as a hour on a mid-mount is a damn good work-out!
Of course the physical therapy for back pain and knee replacement tend to make that healthcare savings disappear...

Re: ski spreaders?
I loved riding the mid-mount sleds when I was younger and had 2 good legs and feet ! Now that i am older w/one good leg (thats questionable) I have to stick to the darkside sleds.. although that seems to be a task staying on them also at 50mph.. I sometimes forget that the seat is made for my BUTT and not my one knee..

Re: ski spreaders?
I've always wanted to know how much it affects the steering. Seems to me it would make it a little squirrely in the turns. Any input would be helpful before I go buy a set.

Re: ski spreaders?
I know on other sleds they can break spindles. Any chance of it happening on the Deere sleds?
