nice crank needed for 80 Trailfire 440

Post by luvzvintage »

My 80 TF 440 blew an the outer PTO crank bearing due to another area of the crank failing according to my crank doc, so my crank is boat anchor material.
Anyone have a great condition and healthy crank for this engine?
My crank doc stated these are weak cranks off the hop...any experience in this regard TF owners?

regards and have an awesome Christmas!!

All of the trailfire motors i have had a apart so far have the case all augered out. I have straightened a couple and have also just let them run. I don't put on a ton of miles but it would be nice to know what your sitting on is going to hold together. Liquifires and sportfires had issues with spitting rod shims too. I doubt you will find a good used crank and case. A cat bottom end would work but center seals aren't as good may have a little different oil hole configuration. In my experience the cat kawi cranks and cases have held up.
