Thank you for the link. I will test all this tomorrow. Here are todays updates.
Put the recoil on, pulls easier then before and much smoother. I put low temp grease on all moving parts.
Still fired at 1st or second pull but nothing after that. I found my Digital Automotive Tester and It has an ignition test mode. Never used that mode so not sure how it works. I bought it from Matco Tools MD 2020 is part number but I think its built by OTC.
According to this, I am getting between 5 and 7 KV on plug wires. The more you pull it the higher it goes. I think you only get a reading if the plugs fire. It has an inductive pick-up clip.
Is this good?
I would say that the problem is ignition.
If I do find the bad component with the link to testing cd ignition systems, Where do I find parts?
I cant really find anything except EBAY. Someone wants $99 for a universal cdi box that I have to cut the plug off to wire the rectangular plug to.
Spark looks kinda weak now, if any.

I am not familiar with your automotive tester, a simple ohm meter is all that is needed. Follow the diagnostics and let us know what you find wrong.

as far as a cdi unit goes , a few years back dennis kirk pretty much flooded the market with nos cdis for your sled , people have bought them up and once in awhile you see them advertized for sale .they are around and can be purchased , im sure an ad in the classified section here on the site will find you one at a competitive price .wade

If the stator ends up still good and you have a bad CDI, here is the updated version with the round plugs. The color code is the same so you can cut pick-tails off the rectangle connector and splice onto this.

It's funny how DK Trader can have multiple listings of the same product at different prices. An NOS cdi box is cheap at $25.00

I have seen other items like this, but when you check the shipping you find out where the savings are lost.

Mattguy, thank you for the link. I didnt see this while searching ebay.
$25 + $5.99 S&H is very reasonable compared to all the ones I saw.

Wade, my sled has the rectanglar plug. The ad says this fits serial 70221 and up, mine is 70226 so maybe they had a few still laying around and put them on here. I did find out it was supposedly replaced years ago...

Your welcome, I bought two just because of the cheap pricing. You have to search and search on ebay. Feel bad for the people who spent over 100 on a couple of other NOS CDI's that were listed!

Actually NOS Trigger too for 7.99 I found.
