dator wanted

Post by croyturbo »

I am new to this forum, but from what I gather this is prob. my best bet for trying to locate a Dator. I am not wanting a restored one(take one if right $), looking for one that is all there(or close). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

They seem to be as hard to find as teeth in a chicken. Does anybody know if you can get enough reprod. parts to at least build a representable clone.

Depends on your definition of clone. Cosmetics yes...repopped hoods are available and are easily the most identifiable piece on a dator. Pistons, rings, airboxes, have been repopped, but the rest of the motor is made of mostly unobtainium. There are several dator clones running around with liquifire chassis and mill and dator hoods. A few have stuffed newer & larger mills under the hood as well as modern tracks and suspensions. There are several posts here with more details...specifically thinking members JDXspec and KWC.

One of these is not like the other...

the dator radiator is bigger ,taller thicker wider etc , the original dator radiator was like an ac condencer in that it didnt have end tanks but tubes that ran in and out .some claimit was an oil cooler off of a deere bulldozer or something but i dont think that has ever been confirmed , there are also air box bases available now but will not work with a liquifire motor in the sled . wade
