You either need to resize your photos to be less than 1000kb, or lower the camera's image size before you take them.

Vic,
It's hard to see the wiring exactly but it appears that you are missing the engine connector that mounts behind the recoil since there are several wire splices. I may be able to get a picture of one of my Cyclones to help identify things.
After comparing one of your pictures of the cdi box to the Hewtech drawing, the wires are in the correct place. The only wire that you may think is wrong is the white leading to the ignition switch. It originally was black coming out of the connector then it changed colors to white at the engine connector, which is missing. The CDI box looks oem/original for '76 with the B style connector. The serial number indicates that you have an early production 1977 Cyclone which I think carried over the rectangle plug. Since the wires are spliced any way, I would try and find a used stator from a 78 because there was an improvement with them. buying the reround stator from Hewtec would be the best thing compared to buying a used one which could crap out at any time.
Your cyclone looks like it has been thru the hands of several mechanics, who have altered it thru the years. From one of the pictures you can see that the suspension has been changed. Do you have the lighter aluminum skid frame from a 1978 cyclone?
Good luck, Look for a few of us in the chat room in the evenings.

I notice a lot of corrosion on the secondary coils.

Also is the impulse line rubbing on the steering post?

YEAY! site back up. I replied late sat night but didn't go through.
OK here is what I know so far.
My Father told me a few months ago(he bought sled brand new)The suspension is original to sled and factory was experimenting with a new suspension.(he passed away late december). Suspension looks to be for serial 80,000 and up.
My younger brother received thist sled as a graduation gift from our father in 91. He had nothing but trouble with it. burnt a piston, blew track in half, and had the same ign problem I am having right now. He sold it to a friend of ours back in 93 maybe not running. Bro replaced track and went through motor.Got it running good but then ign acted up just like its doing now. then he sold it not running. Friend gave it to his brother and I found out that he replaced cdi box and it ran fine until he parked it years ago. In a conversation with friend, he mentioned he was cleaning out his shed and asked me if I wanted anything like a snowmobile he forgot was in there and an Echo leaf blower. I said sure and he dropped off the sled and blower later that day. Free.
I found some problems after a brief walkaround. Recoil hanging out because flywheel cover was half hanging off and really bad gas to name a few. I pulled motor removed housing and broken bolts then reassembled. I went through carb and reinstalled motor. It fired up in 2 pulls with the bad gas. It wasn't rotton just mixed very rich like 10 to 1 maybe by the smoke(turned out it was racing gocart gas). put new fresh gas in at 50:1 and ran great for a week or 2 and then it just wouldn't start. Stator test failed on low speed side.
One of the picks you can see a hole in tunnel where cleat flew off when track broke. Nothing rubbing on steering shaft maybe 1/2"away from lines. I am not sure what a light weight aluminum skid mount is, please let me know.
Also, would a 78 liquifire stator work or only a cyclone? I have a lead on 3 stators in the classifided section.
Sorry for the repeat info, its been awhile since I posted. I will reread all posts in this topic and answer more questions I missed.

oh skid frame. still not sure what you mean and yes, external coils are corroded where wires go to terminals. PTO side I was going to clean but broke stud off trying to remove. Wire is being held on with alligator clip for now until I come up with a permanent repair. I am sure the mag side will snap off too.....

it's cool you got the sled back after all those years. The original track in '76 did not hold up and it was common for them to fly apart. They were replaced by the 2/3 cleated style.
The 78 stator will fit, same color code, it will just have the updated round connectors.
Here is a picture of the 78 style all aluminum skid frame.

I really dont see any aluminum in that pic. so the 78 cyclone/Liquifire stator are the same and will work?
On my sled, the only aluminum on suspension is where slides go and the shaft where mounting bolts go I assume. I will try to post a few more pics...

I shouldn't have said" all aluminum". The rails are aluminum and one pivot shaft. The 76/77 Cyclone skid frame rails were steel with heavy springs too.

Not to get off subject but are those Liquidators really quick? I have never seen one in person. I always thought the fastest stock 340 sled was a Blizzard.
The name is kinda funny, sounds like someone is selling alot of furniture on a liquidation sale.
Please let me know how these are and maybe I will search for one.

Vik,

JD race sleds get very $$$$$$! The cranks seem to be an issue with Liquidator engines. Guys are always looking for rods and bearings for them. They are around and will surface from time to time for sale. There have been several parts for these reproduced but there are still items that are very hard to find if you have a incomplete sled. Lots of guys build Dator clones just so they can use more common parts that are readily available. As far as how fast and top speed, I can't answer that one. I know they are heavy machines.
