Bob where does the engine sit in your X8?
And where is the engine in your L-fire?
Square peg, round hole.

Todd I changed my stator in chassis and had all the room in the world to pull the seal.

Re: 1982 Liquifire resurrection
Today the engine was pulled and I am glad I did. When removing the clutch, I have found that the spider assembly was not loctyted back on after someone was into this clutch at one time, I could spin the outside sheeve with the spider off in my hand while the inside sheeve that mounts to the crank stayed affixed to the crank shaft. Moments later the clutch was off in my hand, estimated time 10 minutes. Engine was then removed, I was able to leave the exhaust in place, just remove the springs on it and loosen up the front and rear mounting bolts, estimated time for the engine removal 38 minutes. Got the engine on my work bench in the warm basement and tore down the bottom end, found the mag side seal to be completely blown out, pto looks great. I think with a nice seal puller I could have pulled that seal out and installed a new one without splitting the cases. I you note in the photos the seal was bad. I am also not going to pull down the top end, compression was 140 psi on both jugs and after looking into the heads through the carb mounts, the pistons are not even scuffed at all look like new, very clean, should be with 7xx miles on it. The flywheel came right off, ran to the local hardware store and got some M6 bolts and washers, mounted it to the flywheel and it popped right off...thank god ! Hopefully this goes smooth..waiting on seals...

Re: 1982 Liquifire resurrection
Attn BOB. you cannot change that mag side seal in your LF properly. The kawi seals are ALL ribbed for your disappointment ! NOW I have against what everyone has told me changed the PTO side without splitting the cases ! I would NEVER advise anyone to do this b/c in about a years time your back to Square 1 with a slightly leaking seal !

Also, this is why it bugs me when people say: "Oh, it's usually the clutch side seal that fails, the mag side is probably fine." NOPE.

Re: 1982 Liquifire resurrection
Paul, you are on it man. Do it right the first time and enjoy for a long time. Just put over 100 miles on my 82 this weekend and no issues. But, I jumped through all of the hoops as well. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Re: 1982 Liquifire resurrection
Today the life is put back into it.
Crank seals were installed without removing the top end, flipped it over split the cases and had at it. All good. Had issue with a high idle, problems with the cables caused that to be the problem, they were not adjusted correctly. She runs perfect, best runner I have had yet for a John Deere. The Tr800 needs a little TLC and so does the secondary....It still needs a temp gauge and a seat ! Its barn fresh !!
Here are some pics ! Dirty but its winter and it is what it is for now...... I try not to wrench in the winter time !
