Stator

Post by Viktory2k1 »

Hello again. I put new cdi unit in and sled acted exactly the same, fire here and there. I knew better but what the hell right?
I pulled motor and all parts to remove stator. The stator stinks, like a bad computer or something. I did have to cut off old plugs to wire this. I swear it was sparking like crazy, well better then before. Still only fires here and there. Like one out of 5 pulls.
Low speed coil tested 1.6K ohm and spec is 2.7K
It was worth a shot but I knew stator had issues. I will test this out of the motor to see if something else is wrong.
Here are some pics:

That cooked varnish smell is never good.

Time for a stator and pickup coil replacement.

Seals seem newer and pickup coil tests good. The hard part was lifting the motor to the toolbox. Seemed light until it went past waist high. Then got heavy and I have a strange pinching sensation in my upper right back which didnt start until today. Not too bad but did some incorrect lifting for the final 6 inches.

Always keep a six pack in the fridge, even if you don't do brew.

It makes getting the engine on the bench easier.

Offer your neighbor a cold one for the effort.

Who knows, you may even spark an interest in the hobby from him.

Another wrench never hurts.

I was ok. A nice, hot shower fixed it for the most part. Still there but way less.
The neighbors here want me to work on there junk and pay me. I got a job for a 99 sonota brake line, fuel leak, and possible right front wheel bearing and a 2000 jeep of some sort with a fuel leak. Nice, now thats its 9 outside. I wish these projects were available like 2 months ago. Yeah, you cant even see the top of toolbox now.
Oh yeah, today I was asked if I can fix a pullstart on an unknown year(early 80's by description)Yamaha enticer and install new muffler on 86?(not IFS) indy 500. I can do this stuff outside if the years are right and will be 8 for the high.
Well, maybe change my mind once it is 8 without windchill. Advisory goes in effect I think noon for windchill.
Lets see..
Later

P.s. I want my 70 evenrude back, fastest sled I ever rode. Like going 40 on a bike. Maybe closer to a kayak. I can't believe the public bought these. 25hp, no handeling, went like 40mph top end. Very scary.
