Regarding star studs and aluminum tunnel wear strip…

Post by eppjd »

Putting the 5 point star studs in my cyclone track, the fine tune manual calls for the addition of an aluminum wear strip in the center of the tunnel, I made a wear strip, but it does not say anywhere on the placement of it. Does anyone know if it should be at the rear of the tunnel with the other 2 plastic wear strips or should it be forward more to eliminate rash at the front of the tunnel?

I should state that all the studs will be placed alternately on the middle belt section of the cleated track

A thicker tunnel protector is required to use the studs. You would remove the original and pop-revit the new one in the same place. What ever you are using, lay it on top of the track to see it covers the studs. The studs cannot be taller than the tunnel protector.

The star studs stick up past the cleats no more than 1/8", and I made new replacement plastic wear strips to replace the original ones at 1/2" thick. I looked at the fine tune manual again (76-77 cyclone/liq page 27) and upon closer inspection it shows me what I need to know. Guess I should have done a double take before posting here, but thank you.

Adam......Star studs are not good, pack with snow and fly off the track, use Woody's nails if you stud the track. Star studs are junk and will be a problem! JRC

I doubt it will make a difference but we are talking about the 5 point star studs. I have been told the 6 point were better. We got a deal in a few boxes of these 2 years ago at waconia.
