79 trailfire 440 track

Post by Kelowna440 »

So I have read the sticky about track interchange but I do not fully understand it... So I have a 79 I belive because the date tab is missing.. It has a steel tunnel and a trailfire hood with a 440.. Anywho I blew the cleated track apart and started sourcing out a new one.. The one I found is a 84 snowfire Wil this interchange...

I think I did this right I got measurements for my track

114" inside so that would be a 116"outside I guess?
15" wide
2" lug spacing
8" center to center
14.5" cleats

So if I read correctly then all snowfires had a 15" track with 2" lugs??

I have a used track coming in pretty soon. It's supposed to be good. Let me know if you're interested and as soon as I personally see it I'll let you know the price.

Are you sure it's an 84? I can't imagine using an 84 Snowfire for parts for a 79 Trailfire.....just my humble opinion.

Yes the date tag makes it an 84.. It was used for parts for restoring another snowfire and is missing the engine and some other stuff but the track, suspension, tunnel and hood are all there.. It is a cleated track also but I don't have the measurements of its track yet

Yes sir that is quite the road trip. While most here would tend to agree with Don regarding not using a 84 snowfire for parts (last yr and last JD model produced - therefore desired by many collectors) I'm not sure you are going to have a lot of options close by. There were a lot of 79 trailfires produced, but the tracks are a weak point and getting hard to come by. Many have gone the way of a rubber track conversion from a liquifire. There are a lot of them around and the tracks tend to hold up well. There are many posts on the site regarding the track swap. Probably the best long term option.

Well what is left of the snowfire is only 100$ it's already parted out and I am just getting what's left of it... All I need to know is if the tracks were the same..

I would love and easily swap to a liquidfire track since I work in a machine shop it wasn't a problem making any parts I needed.. The problem is I can't seem to find anything here... There's one for 1000$ but that is out of my range
