Judging on the sound im gonna say carb. They were muffled. Plus it would jerk almost like it was gonna take off but wouldnt. Im gonna pull carbs again and make sure floats arnt stuck. Also might try droppin the needle to 4 and see if it helps. Other then that im wondering timing or clutch possibly? Thanks.

Mr. Deere wrote:Ok quick update. Installed the right jets and took her out to the pond. Seemed to be runnin well on the low speed end. Warmed her up and cracked her open. It was breaking down like crazy and only hit 6K and not a rev more. I disconnected limiter and still no difference. I gave it choke and it made no difference as well. I don't understand why it would sit and idle fine forever but not wanna go WOT. Plugs look perfect too. I found if I run it half to 3/4 it runs dam good! Will sit at 6K and about 50mph. Got to Wot and it breaks down and backfires and stayed at 6K and drops speed to like 30mph. Any ideas? Carbs are cleaned and new jetted. Sled ran fine 2 weeks ago. Is it possible HSR is bad? Thanks
Bob,
Check the plugs during a high-speed run. If they are good as you stated before, I think the main jetting is fine. I know everyone raves over the HSR but I am suspecting that is your problem. Changing the needles is not the answer, they only come into play from low throttle to 3/4.
Go thru this list for Engine Misses at high speed:

Ignition out of time or weak coils / cdi
Fuel pump problem
head gasket leaking
incorrect main jet in carb
impluse line obsrtucted or leaking.

one more trick you can try ....your timing mark on your stator is set at the 3 o'clock position or aligned with the case seam, move the mark up by loosening the stator bolts and twist the stator counterclockwise about 1/16 to 1/8 inch.

I think you need to start with the basics first !

Pat outta those posted its either 1 or 2. Although pump is brand new. Paul it's dead nuts on the timing mark. I'll move it a little and see what happens. Thanks

moving it counterclockwise advances the timing, spark plugs light off just before top dead center, however by doing this you are putting more heat on top of the piston.

so, if you dont know what you are looking for you are headed into an area where you are playing with FIRE !

Tuning like should only be done as an improvement, not as a remedy. This procedure is done when you are trying to sqeeze everything out of it and know what to look for when things start going bad.

sounds like you got bad ignition coils, breaking down, replace them,if still no good, replace your stator
