Paradise Returns!

Post by Viktory2k1 »

Sled is running better then ever, thanks to Harleysportster!
Put new stator in and reinstalled motor, hooked everything up last night. Pulled plugs just to see spark, It was way better then before and loud snap instead of quiet snap. Put plugs in and it started on first pull! All I could do it ride it down the driveway and back due to no snow but ran better then it ever did since I got this sled. It also sounds different, like throatier, angrier? Also idles maybe 100rpm's higher.
Still alot of work to do but getting better. I will put my meter on plug wires to see what KV is now. I also want to try surface-gap plugs, maybe. This sled also has a nos CDI box from dktrader(2 weeks on sled)
Before it was between 2 and 6KV depending how many times you pulled it over(not running at the time)goes higher the more you pull it.
Reminds my of those flashlights you shake to charge.
I would also like the clutch to engage alittle higher so maybe I will get a new spring. Not sure what color is in it(rust) or what to get but will find out soon and post results.
Still have to put on the engine connector and clean up wiring a little.
will post some pics soon........

By no means is this the end. clutch engages just off idle. When you coast to a stop, it engages right away but if you stop with the brake, it engages a little more aggresive. Still too low. Tach not accurate but doing the best I can.
I took 4 new pics. First 3 are of horrible wiring and 3rd one is junction block. Also recoil is rotated ccw 1 bolt hole.
Last pic is suppose to be sled running with exhaust but cant see any in pics.

Yeah I know about the 12v side shorting. Gonna double check the wires for bare spots before I put connector on.
I described the pics in reverse order. Not sure where key off wire or kill button goes. Maybe the black one?
I do need a new handlebar kill button. Mine is inop and I unplugged it. I just do not feel safe without that button working. If throttle sticks open I dont want to fumble around for the key switch(which seems to be on the wrong side, mine is on left) with one hand holding on. I tried, brakes do not over ride open throttle.
Also I posted a pic of when this sled was new, its the one when all 3 or us are on it, me in front. I looked very close at original pic and I think I can see those 3 holes in hood. This is before original reg stickers were installed. I dont know if you can see this in posted pic.
Maybe some mirrors were supposed to be mounted on both sides of hood.
WOW ppl snowmobling falling through ice on Superior and Winnabago on news now.
gotta run... let me know if you may know what these drilled holes are(driving me nuts).

If you can see any of the paint left on the primary spring, it should be silver. If the tach works, the engagement speed should be around 3600-3800 rpm.

Tach is inaccurate but idles around 3000. My meter has a tach hookup but not sure if it goes down to 2 cyl. I think tach is about 20% high. I will have to check out meter.
Ether way, I want maybe 500rpm or more on engagement.
