Camoplast track on a JD Trailfire?

Post by Liquifire 4/6 »

A 1982 Trailfire 340 showed up this past sunday at the Roblin/Makaroff, MB Vintage Derby and I happened to notice it had a rather deep lug all rubber track on it. I asked the owner where he got the track and he said he just recently acquired the machine and the track was on it when he got it. I rolled the track over and it was stamped Camoplast and had about a 1" lug height. I did not notice a part # on it anywhere. The suspension was a totally stock JD unit. I did not have a measuring tape with me to measure the pitch, but I'd guessed it to be 2.5" pitch and if I was correct in my guess, the sprockets must have been changed. I hope to see this sled again at an upcoming derby and will take a better look then to figure out what the scoop is on it. The sled ran very well and the track turned over nice and smoothly.

I talked to another JD sled guy at the Toronto snowmobile show a few years back and he mentioned that you could use a Camoplast track. I still have the catalog I picked up. I forgot to mark the track he pointed out, but I think it must have been a 9796T Durasport 725. The track is 15"x116" with 0.725" lug height and 2.52" pitch. It would be interesting to know what drivers would work along with any other suspension mods needed to make it work.

Looks like it fits the original Yamaha Phazer..sprockets down the center. Anybody know the slide spacing? Looks wider..

I did the Phazer track conversion on one of my Liquifires. I may have been the jd guy you talked to mwking. That would have been the fall of 2010.

Mike, the rails do need to be spaced out, Deere stock spacing is 7.625" (I think), and the Phazer track is the more common spacing 8.00" (I think)...

The track has worked out well, I used the drive lugs near the outside of the center belt. That drive axle set up was a breeze to get the flange bolts through the tunnel.
