I cant say you are wrong but I did have everything adjusted correctly. The spring in the secondary same as dads and primary the same weights and spring. And the belt was out of the secondary 1/16" and deflection was about 1.5". It got even worse the more I rode it so I called ken and after that and he asked if it was losing compression as it got hot and it was. So I have some extra cylinders Ill drop in and hope that fixes it.That Girl Racing wrote:I am going to stick to my my guns. Clutching

It starts great. Good compression cold. Not warm tho

in reply to johnnycyclone reference to the JD manual and Comet's manual for spring and weights, i have nice comet's restored with one of each configuration. I've found the purple spring/B weights (same as Liquifire) clutch too really wake up my Trailfire 440 both on takeoff and acceleration, however, clutch engagement is around 3600 rpm and top end seem to lack some. With the silver spring/U weights (same as Sport?) the overall performance is ok, alot flatter with maybe a bit more top end, with engagement rpm at around 2200 - 2400.
comet has more than one silver spring...is this the difference between the trail 440 and sporty's clutching. If not, they're the same clutch?!?

The Sporty has F weights and silver spring. Trailfire has Silver spring and U weights. Dads has this and the primary engages at 3800 rpm and the sporty at about 4200

the JD book lists the sporty having U weights. F weights were run in the 76 liquifire comet i believe.

Hmm... Maybe I do have the wrong weights in. But that wouldnt explain what it was doing.

Back at this again... I found the problem. Blew the mag side bearing cage apart. Loss of power due to excessive friction. I now have a sportfire engine mounted, need to adjust some things. The exhaust is to far forward and I cant the hood on. Got it running anyway. Better throttle response. Now I have a liquifire I hope I don't have to fight with like this.
