I know a certain fellow that has one that when he originally bought it he thought someone cut the hole out. A certain someone pointed out he was wrong and that Deere made it that way for a limited build... Joe will never live that one down. :lol22:

To correct Kulda's erronious post:

In 2002 I did in fact purchase what turned out to be a 1982 early build Sprintfire open hood and windshield. I did not think someone cut a hole in it, but I did think it was a repainted Snowfire hood. For the first, and maybe only time in his life, the then young Timmy corrected me as the parts book showed a pic of the early build sled.

While never living down not knowing this one fact, I did repay the lad by helping replace a smoked jackshaft bearing and doing a hack repair job on trashed clutches that had made contact due to the smoked bearing in under 45 minutes on his Cat 500 Sno Pro at the I-500 this year.

The result was Tim taking 6th place in the 85 hp class, and making Cat's press release about the race. But no matter, he reminds me of my oversite at least once annually

Thanks Todd, :lol22:

Tim, I loved your graphic reply, that was funny!

But the key phrase was "finished the race" and I could add "without blowing a belt" to that. Nice job nursing her in so we could fix it, and for completing the 500 miles.

"Someday" I will make it to the first gas stop on that darn Liquifire...

Positive thoughts JDJR, positive thoughts.

Might not hurt to sacrifice a live chicken either.

Thanks Todd,

I am going to have a hard time convincing folks I need a volunteer gas man if I never show up at the gas stop...hmmm. I was going to sacrifice a restored 400 to the JD gods, but they demanded a 77 "Up-Dator" instead.

Already planning for next year and Furious Adam is looking for Liquifire parts sleds in CO for me...since I might need a bulkhead for some unknown reason that just hit me.

First improvement: A skidplate!
Second: new gas line the day before the race!

So for one, I gotta know, r u doing another '82 or did you just smash up your "new" redone one?
Just messin' I know you planned to work on the next one.
I guess if "Jdrob" is serious then that will make me #3 looking for one.
Hmmmm. Sounds to me like someone should just start making these.?
Or not, but it sounds nice when I think about it for a second.
Getting plans together for an '82 Sprint & a Sno-Jet something or other simultaneous built with friends.
Hope we don't get too many parts mixed together, or one could end up with a Sprint-Jet & the other could
end up a Sno-Fire. Wait. They already have those. Sorry....that was bad.

I have a good relationship with a glass guy in town who could repop these hoods. However, I think that is a very dicey direction to go. I think I would rather just find a factory hood and take it from there.

I am up to (5) 1982 Sprintfires and I would like each one to have an open hood. So I need one more to be complete.
