300 Mikuni conversion jetting details!

Post by EricR »

OK so the question was asked about my jetting in my conversion. Since a buddy just put a carb off a Polaris on and it worked, I never knew. But it was hard cold starting so a friend of mine and I took it apart to give it a good cleaning. Choke was not adjusted to where it would even work, adjusted it and now this morning at 10* temps it started on the third pull with no issue.

It's a VM38 originally from an Indy 500 twin.

MAIN JET- 270
Pilot jet- 40
Cutaway- 3.0

Plug is a nice tan in 20-30* temps, may be lean subzero. Pump is mounted to the outside of the heat shield, just below the carb. I had to shim the hole so to speak where the pivot pin for the throttle flipper is with a zip tie, works perfectly! WOT now.

If we are talking about one sled with a 38mm carb, and another with a 30mm. I don't think they are comparable. The air velocity going through each is going to be much different I would think.
