76 Liquifire coil leads

Post by PolCat »

Can you replace the spark plug wire lead on the coil for the 76 Kioritz 440?
This one has tape over a "wound" in the middle but still works.

You are talking about a 72 CCW this is a 76 Kioritz, would they be the same?? If so  I won't have to buy a new coil just a copper core lead.

Look closely at all the ternimals and connectors. To examine the spark plug wire it has to be removed form the coil.
On your sled the spark plug wire unscrews from the coil. The ternimal is threaded and looks just like a wood screw. Is it rusted? Broken off?

No, the spark plug lead is molded into the casing of the coil unlike the earlier coils used on a points system.

You could try this...

The caps on the oem wire will pull off, there is a coiled wire inside that pierces the spark lead. New spark caps are available at NewBreed Parts.

Well I thought I'd take a closer look at the wire. Someone had taken and cut the copper wire, stripped it back and then took a graphite core wire stripped it back and wound the two together and then tapped it all together. I thought I could find a piece of copper core wire around here but no luck. So for now I took and tinned the copper core wire and then "speared" the graphite wire with the copper wire. Just like some caps do. Then I took shrink tube and heat shrank it over the splice. Pulled it over and had just as nice of spark as the other side did.
Where can a guy find a piece of copper core plug wire?

Most Auto Parts Stores have wire in bulk and sell it by the foot.
