Clutch torque specs
Just replaced seals on 440 motor and was wondering what the torque specs are for the clutch bolt.
Thanks!

Sorry to ask new to these sleds mid mounts? I'm guessing it is a comet I saw it in a service manual I can't locate again.400brian wrote:On the mid mounts it was 50 ft/lbs ( Comet )

Re: Clutch torque specs
Mid-mount is a term we use to reference JD sleds built from '72 - '75. The engine in these was located on top of the tunnel, right in front of the driver.
If you are putting the clutch back on a Cyclone, I imagine you have a Comet clutch, and the retaining bolt should be torqued to 50 ft/lbs. The clutch should be put on the crank with both surfaces clean and dry.

Re: Clutch torque specs
Yes, 50 ft/lbs is correct. Here is a link to an online service manual. You will find the torque specs and other info.

Re: Clutch torque specs
Dumb question. How do you hold clutch (102c) to torque bolt.
Use to clutches that do not have cover on them so you slide something through clutch to hold it. Service manual shows cover off and a tool to hold but don't see how that would work.

Re: Clutch torque specs
first thing, leave the old tin clutch cover off. It was deleted in 76. Use a tool like this to hold the clutch.

Re: Clutch torque specs
Was wondering why some had the cover on and some did not. Easy to hold and torque with cover off.
Thanks for the help.
